Wotcha peeps,
had my A920 for a week now, after taking back my 808N within the 14 days (after I saw pics of the A920, hehe), and I mostly love it, such a great lump of technology! And that screen....! Wow.
But.....
what is the deal with the email system? Nearly everytime I try to use the email "send and receive" system in email messaging (not the one in services) it gets stuck trying to the the first header!! And last night I put a schedule on to check for new emails every hour or so and the battery (fully charged at 11pm) suddenly ran out at 5am, waking me up with loud noises telling me about it! Email is one of the main reasons I got the 3 phone, that combined with the great value tariff.
Is anyone else having this problem? Also, attachments on emails that I do manage to get, NEVER download!
this is a great shame, and I hope 3 manage to sort their services out as soon as possible.
For the record, my OS version is:
11.11.00.00
and I do get a fair bit of call dropping, plus I have had only one phone reset issue.
Looking forward to the software signing being cracked, as I do not doubt it will be, so I can get some apps that I, the user, want to put on MY phone, lol.

I don't have one, but I think the reason for this is 3 have majorly locked the phone so you can't use other software on it other than the stuff you buy and download from 3, IMO P800 applications *should* work on this phone, they are just trying everything possible to stop you sending these applications to the phone, so No BT or no email attachments maybe.
It's just a guess, but a likely one i'd say.
Nah dude, email attachments work fine, the problem is viewing them. If you send an email with a jpg for example as an attachment, it'll work fine. Of course unless you have a view for whtaever it is you're knackered.
Are you in a 2, 2.5 or 3g area? I've found my emails to be much more reliable in 2.5g roaming on o2 than on 3 straight. I've had the same problem with it hanging on the first header it comes to - I've got an older firmware tho. I dont think there's much of a solution or workaround for this yet, remember if your in a 3g area you could always do it through the browser ... though I've now managed to do it in a 2.5g area ... 😊

At home I'm always full 3G, I'll have to check it out next time the signal drops to 2.5 when I'm out and about. But doing via the browser is not really what I'm after though, I wanted to know when I had emails, rather than having to go looking for them. It's why I was trying out the scheduling. Taking the phone back is not an issue though, cos it's too bloody sexy, lol.
Dale.
{EDIT} phone just dropped to 2.5G and the email thing worked great, shame 3 can't sort their own service out!

Hehe ... thought it might! 😉

In a way I wish I was back on Orange - I use my phone for business and its a bit embarassing when calls keep dropping.
This will make things a bit better:
1) Go into the phone section, then settings, then network
2) Change the reg pref to manual and click find new network
3) Click avail
4) - wait -
5) Select 02 when it comes up and click register - then its on O2 until you flick it back to AUTO.
This means you are still on a crap network (o2), but at least the network can cope with the handover protocols, so a lot less droppage will occur.
However, I'm sure their will be some sort of auto-update at some point to block this (It costs 3 loadsa dosh to use the o2 network). If this does happen at least we will know that software patches can be applied without sending the phone away, which could be a good thing if you think about the possibilities this brings (Although it would mean some walled-garden hacks could become useless just weeks after they are found).
It would be good to have online firmware/patch updates, but I cant see that happening...
I think one of the main reasons for this, is orobably down to user error, for example, if applying a firmware update if the battery is low, and it fails to reboot , it could kill the phone...
I have learnt this from doing a factory reset on a nokia 7650, when the batt was low (forgot to check), and it failed to reboot.
That might still be to our advantage. If 3 doesn't open up the software, but can't apply patches etc over the network, it means they can't block any cracks/workarounds when they are found so we can run what we want on the system.
Well, I have used this technique to get my phone onto 2.5G instead of full 3g, and the email system now works a treat, now I can schedule my email pickups. Great stuff guys, thanks for the workaround.
And it's not like I will miss 3's video services, hehe, such as they are. I got the phone for the tech and the tariff, and I still get those on 2.5G, plus no constant call droppage AND the O2 coverage here is great!
Dale.
I get 'server refused connnection' errors when I try to pick up my email. Is this a server problem, a 3network or a settings problem?

peter you need to setup your email, it's not preconfigured, go menu>control panel>connections>messaging accounts>edit> fill in relevant details, particularly in inbox username which is your phone number without the preceeding zero with 44 at the front, e.g. 44783... etc.
My bad for being casual with my language. 3mail is fine, I have set that up, and works nicely on 2.5g.
I meant I get that problem with my other smtp mail. I think that 3 will disable this...
I've also been hacking around trying to pick up 3mail in Outlook, but as is covered in another thread, that is unlikely to work, until the Strategists at three hire someone smart (like me!) to explain how technology is supposed to be rolled out!

I was just wondering if it would cost me any extra on top of my videotalk 1000 plan on 3 if I set my phone to roaming (using either O2, Orange, T-Mobile etc for 2.5G covarage to collect pop3 mail).
Any clues appreciated.
