Lock Code Help

All these recent posts on how to change the lock phone icon made me realize I have never locked my phone. I went to do so and got a password box asking me for my "lock code". I put in the password I use when I boot my phone, the "PIN code" and it didn't work. I can't ever remember putting any other passwords into the phone so I was wondering if there is a default "lock code" that the phone defaults to? Or if not, how I can get this fixed...

try using the default lock code 12345
