Installed MobiReader for P800 thinking it was freeware but you need a serial number.
Is there anything out there that is freeware and is similar to AvantGo/MobiReader?
All I want to do is read a few bits of daily news on the phone instead of online e.g. when on train.
Recommendations...?
AvantGo/MobiReader equivalent
The Mobipocket Reader IS freeware, you only have to pay for the Pro version. Check this thread for more information about this reader.
You might also want to check out the TomeRaider reader which accepts Tomeraider (.tr) files and .doc files.
And eBook from SymbianWare which accepts .prc files.
You also have RepliGo which accepts just about any document format, but you have to convert them on your PC first.
Only the Mobipocket reader is free though. I also find Mobipocket to be the best one overall. With the reader you get the Web Companion program for your PC which will allow you to automatically get the latest news uploaded to your P800 each time you sync it with your PC.
You can get lots of books from www.mobipocket.com , some of which are free of charge. But I would advice you to have a look at www.memoware.com where you can get PLENTY of free books. The Mobipocket reader accepts the common .doc format just fine.

I went to the MobiPocket site http://www.mobipocket.com/en/DownloadSoft/default.asp and the only thing that shows free is the Emulator. How would I then get the free version?
Do you have a direct link to the page or download because I am confused.
At http://www.mobipocket.com/en/DownloadSoft/DownLoadReaderStep1.asp it says:
Mobipocket Reader Pro vs StandardDownloading the Mobipocket Reader on your PDA gives you a free 14-day trial of the Mobipocket Reader Pro. After 14 days, you can either purchase a license of the Pro version or continue using the free Standard version to read ebooks on your PDA.
So where is the Standard version? Or is it the same version as the Pro version, but I keep having to click on Try to keep using it as Standard?
I feel like the solution is simple but I am just not seeing it...! 😮ops:
Yes, it IS very simple indeed. 😉
You just download the Mobipocket Reader Pro here, and after using it for 14 days it will automatically become the standard version (not much difference really). SImple as that. 😊
Thanks for the clarification.
