well i think the real point is the confirmation that there really is a symbian device coming out, probably in the form of the P810/P900

which for us p800 owners means we can get a firmware upgrade to give us most if not all the featutes of the new phone...

by the way thats not just me hopin, its a very real possibility...

t68 t68i???

I highly doubt this will be the case here.

I doubt it too because the firmware upgrade for T68 to T68i was done for free because MMS and other features were advertised to be in the phone but were not when released.

i know it sounds a bit off base but i believe it will happen maybe not for everyone perhaps but definately i believe there might be criteria, if SE do release another phone with same features (basically) then i for one will bevery pi$$ed off as i had a p800 back about 6 months ago, which i had bought sim free not on contract, but it was stolen about 4 weeks ago, i have just bought another sim free etc and if they bring out a new phone soon enough i will demand they replace it with new model, as i asked the guys i was buying it from SE dealer etc, was there maybe a new model i should hang on for, and i was told not of this type of phone NO maybe 8-9 months away maybe but they did'nt think so!!
but now i feel the release of this so called p810/p900 is very close, i feel within my right having paid big bucks for this p800 now, dont get me wrong i LOVE this phone, but in a way i feel like i've been a Beta tester for whats to come.. as i have found the p800 'fairly' buggy at times..

put it this way... 'Mr X goes to garage and buys Brand New Car 'model Y', he's told its the latest Model and when Mr X asks how long till newer 'model Z' comes out, the garage tell him Oh no this IS the newst model and nothing newer for 9months or so (timescale maybe different for cars??!!)

So great he spends a lot of money for this car only to discover a week later that DEFINatley a newer one out anyday now...

you see the Problem??

hope you understand my Comparison and story etc
thanx

by the way on esato there was a topic by a guy who said he was told for FACT that this p800/p810 firmware thing will be done, just search for it there and you'll find it he seems genuine! ill post the link if i find it later...

I still doubt p800 users will receive the new features of the p900 as UIQ 2.1 as a firmware upgrade, mainly, for one reason,no profit for SE.Even if backporting the new features might be the easiest thing in the world it would still cost a lot to develop and test the new firmware.

BTW:How many p800 owners actually took their device to a SE service centre in order to get its firmware upgraded?

It's not about "backporting the new features". UIQ 2.1 was NOT designed spesifically for the P810/P900. It's not about putting the P810/P900 firmware on the P800, which most likely wouldn't work anyway due to the differences in FC mode, more colours etc. But it's about SE having to upgrade the current version of the P800 firmware to incorporate the next version of UIQ (2.1). This firmware version may already be done, but SE will wait for a couple of months after the P810/P900 is released before allowing P800 users to upgrade.

I know its not about backporting(I was unable to find an adequate term at the time).UIQ is a user interface meant to run on a generic(generic might be a little off) Symbian smartphone and I know its not about putting p810/p900 firmware on the p800 but its also not a minor bugfixing firmware update so it would probably draw high costs in testing and development.

does anyone know when this is out for the p800?

Right now,we are all speculating on the subject, its not certain whether or not this upgrade will be made available for the p800 so an accurate date is out of the question but like Raven said,if the upgrade is real its very likely to pop up couple of months after the p810/p900 is released so that it wouldn't have a big impact on p810/p900 sales.
