Hi all,

I would like to ask if there is any broadcaster or any encoder (like Windows Media Encoder) that gives you the ability to input a metafile .asx file or a .sdp which points to a TV streaming channel (or to something that is endless like the streaming media from a TV channel).
For example a raisport.asx

<asx version = "3.0">
<title>Raisporthigh</title>
<entry>
<ref href = "mms://fastreal.fastweb.it/raisporthigh"/>
<title>Raisport</title>

<copyright></copyright>
<author></author>
</entry>
</asx>

Or for example to take as input a url to the streaming media mms://fastreal.fastweb.it/raisporthigh Or
rtsp://myServer.com/live.rm

transcode it and broadcast it again with different quality.

I tried many products like Windows Media Encoder, Helix Mobile Producer(and live), mpegable but i didn't find anything about it.

All these tools gives you the ability to prepare a file from streaming but not something like that i want to(a URL, or a metafile..)
Does anyone knows any tool that has this functionality?

Thanks in advance!

If understood your post correctly your are looking for a streaming server,right?Under win32,you can try Darwin Streaming Server.

No,

I am looking for a TRANSCODER that takes as input a metafile for a streaming video (.sdp or .asx) or a URL to a streaming video like mms://fastreal.fastweb.it/raisporthigh
I want this tool to transcode the initial stream and change his bitrate and format in order to be appropriate for mobile devices, PDA's, etc.

All the tools i have tried (Helix mobile producer, mpegable, Windows media encoder) take as input only local files .rm .ram .asf .wmv .wma, transcode and prepare them for streaming(usually output a metafile in order these files to be accessable through a streaming server)
These tools doesnt input metafiles or URL's that point to real time streaming video (from a TV channel - This is what i want to..)

I hope you understand

Could anybody help me please?

This may work...

Get softcam from www.luminositi.com

Play the stream through softcam..
Open Helix or WM Encoder and select to encode a live signal - select softcam as your capture device..

and stream back out..

Not tried - but in theory it'll work.

Softcam is an application that gives you a 'virtual' hardware capture device on your PC that treats a file or area of the desktop as a live input into the device.. I'm probably not explaining this very well, look on their site and you'll get the idea 😊

.

Thank you for giving me this information.

In theory this is what i want to, but in practice i cant implement that in this way.

My goal is to watch real time streaming video (TV channel) from a mobile phone (in the appropriate format and bitrate). The mobile devices doesnt have the capabilities that has a Desktop PC. All the real time streaming videos in the web have high bitrate and format that cannot be playable in the mobile devices (low bandwidth).
So, i need a transcoder that takes as input a metafile or a URL that points in real time video streaming, transcode it and output the appropriate content.

Everything i describe above sould be done through a module (code) running in apache Web server. Every request is coming to the server from a mobile device has in the http headers the capabilities and the preferences(CC/PP headers http://www.w3.org/Mobile/CCPP/ ) of the mobile device. The module running to the server gets these headers, calls a transcoder and generate content (on the fly-in real time) appropriate for the capabilities of the thin client.
In this case (streaming) i need a TRANSCODER to take as input the URL of the real time streaming video (that the thin client request), transcode it and output the transcoded streaming video to another Streaming server (maybe Darwin streaming server) in order to be accessible from the mobile device.

All the tools i refered above do something like that but only for local files and live video captured from hardware devices(camera) but not for real time streaming video (URL or a metafile)

I hope i am clear in what am i looking for..

Please anyone who can help..?

Thanks in advance!

You could try speaking to Oplayo.

They are about to launch a new product called oplayo live and also are working in conjunction with microsoft to stream wmv's onto mobile devices.

If they do not have a solution, they may be able to give some advice.

You can try the contact pages on www.oplayo.com but if you get no response drop me a PM and I'll PM you the e-mail addy of a couple of contacts there.

I have found two tools the VBXcoder and the dynapel transcoder.

But i thing that they doesnt provide any trial version.
Does anyone knows anything about them?

Thanks in advance

I have watched a Main terestrial channel being streamed through the 3650 during a trial which is running. I think Mobix were involved but cant be too sure.....
