Moving/Deleteing Posts Issue

Raven,

I understand what you mean about keeping everything in order....but, I don't think deleting peoples posts isn't the way to go about it at all.

I got sick of reading My-Symbian for such censorship like that.

To me forums are about free discussion and I hate to see people "Slapped on the wrist" for disussing relevant points in the forum, if you feel that a post is completely off topic (Like someone asking where they can get a can buy an Jumbo Jet in the P800 forum), then feel free to move it.

From my experience trying to put everything in it's place just annoys people too much.

😊

J2theIZZO,

I understand your position, but I completely disagree. 😊

As a point of reference I would like to direct your attention to the P800 forum at esato.com. That's a forum with practically NO moderating, which have resulted in links to illegal stuff (warez etc.) floating around for days before they are removed, but more importantly and in relevance to this discussion, it has resulted in endless "flamewars"/personal attacks and "thread highjacking"/off-topic discussions etc.

I often browse different discussion boards looking for relevant information, but forums like Esato etc. makes it incredibly difficult, time-consuming and not to mention ANNOYING, because of the reasons I mentioned above - the lack of moderating. I would absolutely HATE for AAS to become like this, and maybe as a result for this not to happen I see it as my "mission"(hehe) to try and keep this forum (the P800 forum in particular) as CLEAN as possible. I would also like to mention that I have not gotten one single complaint about the way I moderate (until now). 😉

So, to sum it up, I find it important to keep this forum a place for easily accessable information and relevant discussions, and try my best to keep it this way (without stepping on any toes of course). After all, we do have "The Waffle" for completely irrelevant, off-topic disussions, right. 😉

I would really appreciate all opinions on this matter from all of you. 😊

Cheers.

Oh, and btw, I only mentioned deleting peoples posts as a warning, because the discussion was getting waaaay off-topic.

Raven,

I am not saying I want an unmoderated forum at all, i'm also not getting at the way you moderate the forum in particular...just I felt that the topic hadn't gone that far from the topic to warrant that response.

I think it is important to watch out for warez links etc, and move completely off topic posts in threads.

But at the same time trying not to disrupt the flow of the thread, which I felt the tracker conversation did not do as it arised from the fact that 3.0 will be included in the P900.

I don't want to go around in circles with this conversation, I guess it's hard to see where i'm coming from for you, and please don't take it personally.

But I felt that such harsh moderation and moving posts completely ruined any atmosphere that was left in My-Symbian and various other forums, and it's now not such a great place to be (IMO anyway), but on the other hand I don't read forums such as Howard forums as it's complete and utter mess.

There's a fine line between them, and I think the Moderators in AAS all do a great job of keeping it a friendly place to post, I just had flashes of My-Symbian when I read it that's all.

You can only ask people to use the search function, 80% of people won't, they will just start a new thread, and I think trying to hammer it into people will just annoy them and they'll use a different forum, I know I would...sometimes I use the search function...sometimes I can't be bothered to search through hoards of posts. I guess it's a personality thing

Nothing more to say on the subject really 😉

Jordan😃 😃

I don't take it personally no, not at all. 😊

Since you used My-Symbian as a reference, I would like to mention that, I for one, LOVED reading it when it was heavily moderated because I didn't have to waste my time reading useles, off-topic posts to find the information I was after. My-Symbian however, stopped this "heavy" moderating after a short while, and now you can see for yourself that it's become alot more messy. 😞

I would also like to mention that I have yet to delete a post that didn't contain warez links or was duplicated. I have never deleted posts because of them being off-topic. Again, I said it as a warning.

The user "Jesal" is famous for spamming the P800 forums, and not respecting the moderators. -Just ask "Nosferatu", he has dealth with him before and even complained about him in a PM to me. And I don't understand how you can say that "Jesal"'s posts in the "Soon P810" topic wasn't off-topic? 😕 He started asking completely off-topic questions like:

hey ppl i did get the p800. nice phone. but i somehow leave all the apps runnin in the background. and there aint no option i see atleast to shut it down. i mean EG : if u use camera the hell can u exit from it ? very difficult. this is my first SE phone so chill ppl, dont expect me to know and i hate readin manual.

And more:

hey ppl can i have links to wallpapers small and big. also how to get full screen wallpaper goin on. i could not figure it out. jus too many options. so plz spare time and type my problems in. thx a lot ppl.

And there's even more. How does this have any relevance to the P810/P900 discussion??? Isn't "thread-jacking" against the forum rules?

I'm still not taking your opinions personally, but I have to say that I didn't care much for you questioning my decision puplically. I would much rather appreciate if you had told me this in a PM, and then I would have explained to you that I wasn't on some sort of a "power trip", and that I didn't intend to mass-delete peoples posts.

I hope you understand.

Cheers. 😊

But this is exactly what I'm trying to prevent. By keeping threads ON-TOPIC you wouldn't have to plow through lots and lots of post to find the single piece of information you're after. And the search function will be so much more easy to use for everyone. 😊

Apologies for bringing it up in the forum, just kind of started a discussion without giving it a second thought. 😮

As for the thread, I think we'll just have to agree to disagree, circles make my dizzy 😉

Jordan
