Uploading software onto P800

Hi,

Ive lost my P800 docking bay, but want to upload software onto the phone. I have a Memory Stick slot in my PC, but not so long ago i tried uploading Men In Black from the Sony CD via the Memory Stick - but when it was installing on the phone it corrupted the phone, it then wanted to format the disk - and wiped EVERYTHING off the damn phone! all my numbers, photos and over 1000 txt's (i was gutted).

is is possible to do this really?

I want to put software on but im too cautious after what happned last time!

Also i see a files are in "sis" format - i know nothing about these, would these work if i put them on the memory stick and uploaded them?

thanks!

Stiggy

Should work with no problems at all, the Installer on my PC isn't working, I send every app (.sis file) to the phone via BT, and install it from the phone, and it should work by putting the .sis file in the MS and installing it from there.

About MIB II thing, are you sure you had enough memory for it ? Looks like something went wrong during the installation.

Thanks!

just installed tracker and it worked fine.......and looks great!

i think i did have a memory space problem before with Men In Black, but i wont be trying it again anytime soon!

thanks again

the only reason that made your phone crashed and formated the internal memory is: not having enough memory to run the installation program, itn's like u don't have space to save the software (it's not clear, isn't it😕 )!

well, when u upload or send a .sis file to your mobile (whereever it's saved, on the internal of external memory) it needs space to spread the files to start installing and copying them on your desired destination. so b4 u try installing any application on your phone, make sure u have twice the amount of that file on your internal memory (even if u want to save it on your memory card) that would be the only way to prevent your phone from crashing.

I suggest you install all your programs on the memory card to always make space for the Symbian OS to work well on your phone (hope that'd help) 😊

Only problem is if you have more than one memory card,
in which case you need to install the apps on each memory card you intend to use.

You may be better installing applications (Opera, Tracker, Handy Day etc) on the phone and toys (Men In Black etc) on the 16MB card and music/video on the 128MB cards, and then be really ruthless about keeping your phone clean -- move any pictures to card, clear out mail/MMS in and outboxes regularly etc

Hey, took all your advice, and successfully uploaded Men In Black after 9 months of having the phone!

Thanks so much😊

the novelty of having such a game on the phone wears off after about a week or somethinig when you realise you can have an extra ogg song on there or something like that
