Nokia needs to revive the N-Gage in the States before it's too late. Personally I like the N-Gage, but have held back because of the $300 price tag. Selling only 5000 in the first week here in the US is beneath Nokia.
Only 5000 sold in US
You tried buying it off the net. Theres loads of places that sell it sim free for loads less than $400.
SAbz
What's the source/reliability of the '5000'?
The 5000 unit figure came from a new Ziff Davis site.

do you know a cheap one?
I haven`t seen a 400 priced yet. It`s between 320-340 in Turkey... I don`t know about other countries but i don`t think it`s more expensive...
I don't have any information about neither success or failure in the first week of the N-gage release. Here in Spain is 299 I don't think It's too expensive (kind of CHEEP for new product) for someone who wants a PHONE running Symbian with some aditional features like MP3 player and Stereo FM Radio and the possibility to play some GOOD games that come a MMC.
I have to say though that this price is WAY TOO EXPENSIVE for what I think it should be the main target for this "all-in-one-messy-phone", young people who wants a cool portable CONSOLE that allows them to communicate with others in so many ways, including multiplayer games ofcourse.
i think that n-gage was released a bit early because of the PlayStationPortable. because when it released the market will be a hard place to enter. and again i think now nokia tries to make a potential custmer for their new product before other consoles released.
The spokesman of nokia Kari Tuutti told that We are targeting selling several million N-Gage units in 2004," in an interview with the Reuters...
can it be? i`ll wait and see in 2004... maybe 2004 will be better for N-Gage...
due to Ilkka Raiskinen, senior vice president entertainment and media at Nokia, Nokia sold 400,000 N-Gage decks in 2 weeks...

The Register questioned the 400,000 sales figures quoted by Nokia. They could not understand why there was such a discrepancy between the US and the rest of the world. Well this is just an indicator but I checked the Amazon sales ranks in both the US and UK and found the following at the time of posting.
Amazon N-Gage UK sales rank 83
Amazon N-Gage US sales rank 1,712
Quite a difference!
Nokia has sold 400,000 units into the retail chain - they;re not saying how many of those units have been bought by customers in the shops - that would be waaaaayy to honest at this early stage.
Well is is reported.
The number refers to models that Nokia has sold to shops and other retail outlets since the launch on 7 October. Raiskinen said sales to consumers were "very good in Europe and Asia Pacific'' and added he had already received follow-up orders".
The "follow-up orders" sound good for Nokia but yes, I'm suspicious about how well its really doing. I was surprised that it ranked so highly on the UK Amazon figures 😉
So far the N-Gage is an unmitigated failure. Nokia is hiding the truth because it's frankly too embarrassing. IMHO Nokia has lost credibility with the N-Gage. Its sales rate to end users is pathetic Only half the titles they promised were available on launch week.
it`s not a suprise for everyone with that rates. n-gage is a new product and it has to be known by people. this the 2nd week taht nokia is in the gaming market and 40000 is not a bad number for start. i think on and after christmas the sales will grow, and things will be better for nokia for now. after the advertisement (n-gage is and anvertisement of n-gage 2 or any other gaming console from nokia) period with new products nokia will truly enter the market.
