Quick Office Premier

I can't believe no-one has mentioned this yet (people have been bleating about it's absence for months) but we finally have an application for creating and editing standard Word and Excel documents on our P800's. I installed it last night, copied over a few files of each type and had a play.

It works brilliantly. The QuickWord application is quite basic compared to, say, Docs2Go on a Palm, but does what people have been asking for. Indeed, they seem to have kept it as basic as possible to cope with the smaller screen size. Editing documents is a breeze. You have basic formating (font, font colour, size, bold, italic, underline, left, right, center of justified alignment) plus search and replace. A nice little touch is that, when you first go to edit a documnet, it asks you to save it under a different name. That way, should you mess it up (a distinct possibility on a mobile device) you can go back to the original.

However, for me the QuickSheet program is superb. Having the ability to keep my budget plans, holiday details (yes, I am that sad) etc on my P800 and edit them is a dream come true. And it works the same way as excel. If you select a cell, not only do you see the display value, but the formula appears in a little box at the bottom of the screen and this can be edited. Then, click on the "Refresh" button to see what effect this change has on your worksheet. It also deals with workbooks containing multiple sheets.

I'm sure it can't contain every function available in Excel, but after a while of playing I haven't found any of the ones I commonly use that are missing. It even has the marvelous PMT (a formula for calculating mortgage and loan repayments in case you were wondering).

It also comes with a VERY comprehensive PDF-based manual and can view palm format e-books. PLUS (can you tell I like this?) it takes up hardly any memory when it's running. Or at least, according the HandyDay's memory manager it doesn't.

Okay, so it's $40, but for me it is $40 well spent (and Handango have a 10% discount on all software 'till the end of the month, so it's only $36 at the moment).

With this, eZiTap and RealPlayer, those wish-lists we all drew up back in March have all but come true!

ist is absolutly great product. It makes my P800 double the value.

.... if ony tech support whould be more responsible, just did not get to unlock the sw sucessfully after purchase.... and there is no response via email upon my request for help

Since I'm gonna buy the P900 (which has these features integrated allready), I won't buy this product anymore. I support the initiative, but I think they're a bit late with this piece of software

if it was to be bundled with the software, then it could possibly be a trial version, but to have it built into the handset itself, wouldn't they have to own some high license for it?

Who told you that? SE might provide Quick Office on the bundled software CD, but I very much doubt these features will be integrated into the P900.

It says there:

The press release says:

"(...) With the P900, it is possible to view and edit Word and Excel files, which can easily be saved on a Memory Stick Duo and transferred to a PC. It is also possible to view and present Powerpoint presentations, so it could be obsolete to bring a PC to a presentation. (...)

That doesn't mean it's built in or even that the software comes with the phone. They just say "It's possible". It's also possible to edit word and excel documents with a P800!

......good point.... Well, I'll see again after I've bought the P900. If the editing feature is not integrated I might go and buy it...

Ahh I have just bought Quick Office.... awesome awesome. I have been waiting for it for so long and it did not dissapoint. Now my P800 can truely reach its potential.

A recommendation that everyone who owns a P800 consider this application as your number 1 purchase!

Nice application. Handy and readable.

Unfortune that Quicksheet could not display Chinese but Quickword has no problem.
