Hello all...
Big problem: I just connected my N-Gage to my computer, and it's not even recognised by my compuer! Five minutes ago I was transferring MP3s... Disconnected it, listened to songs, connected back to the computer, and nothing appeared. The USB logo appears on the phone.
So, what could I do?
Thanks in advance
did you checked that a new hard drive is added to the drive list in he My Computer? this new drive must be your phone...
I've checked of course... There's no new drive, and the removable devices icon don't appear anymore.
I just had exactly the same problem, fixed by turning the phone off and then on again, then reconnecting.
Another bug for Nokia to look into?
I've tried to reboot the phone, to reboot the comp, and nothing more happened.
An interesting thing is that the USB icon appears on the phone when I hook the USB cable on the PC, and not if I unplug the PC end. So, the USB cable might me faultly. I've already tried with another computer, still no go.
I'll try to get another USB cable, or maybe I'll go to a Nokia Care Center, just to test with them the USB connection.
Or maybe I can buy this small Bluetooth adapter I found for 40 🙄
If you even find another solution to my problem, just tell me 😃
If its not recognising the phone on other computers maybe a hard reset will help.

Same problem
I've tried what u said sabz, but nope.
Can somebody tell me if they sort this?
Cheerz
I've already made a hard reset before, it haven't helped a lot. I can do it again, but I think it'll be exactly the same.
I got exactly the same problem!
First off phone shows connectivity on mobile, so the cable (in theory) must be working at both ends else there'd be no connectivity icon, so I don't think the lead is faulty (although strange things do happen), secondly I've tried it on another PC and it still doesn't work. Just done a hard reset and that hasn't helped at all, the only thing I can think of is that the MMC has somehow had the MBR (master boot record) modified and therefore windows won't recognise it, but I'm pretty sure that even if windows doesn't recognise it then when you plug it into your PC it should still make the "New USB Connection" noise, which leads me to think the lead might be faulty, and then I end up at step 1 again... Anyone got any idea?
P.S: I'm gonna phone nokia support tomorrow and see if they know anything, then I'll go and blag another lead from the mobile phone store, I'll post all results as I get them!
EDIT: Just tried using Regedit to delete all references to N-Gage to see if there was a problem with the registry and it won't let me delete any keys due to "unspecified error", starting to think that the reg-keys somehow got modded. Will continue posting as I know more.
EDIT2: Plugged in SonicN MMC, plugged it into my PC and got the traditional "new usb device detected" so cable connectivity is not wrong, try this with yours, atleast you can find out if the cables gone by plugging in another MMC and seeing if it (windows) recognises it. If you're unsure go onto Control Panel|System|Device Manager (or System|Hardwear|Device Manager for NT/XP Users) then look under disk-drives and see if it lists the Nokia N-Gage USB device. If it does then your cable's fine, if not then try replacing the cable. Anyway, as the cable is fine it leads me to believe the problem is with the MMC itself so I'm going to run some tests using a USB card-reader tomorrow and see if I can fix it. Will post more as I find it out.

hi,
i have just purchased MMC and have use my software cd to install the nokia audio manager. but now i am not able to transfer music to it. on my audio manager says that mobile device not found. and i am also not able to get the com free for the usb port. can someone help me fix this problem.
thx
Ok, here goes:
Played about with the card in an MMC reader and the thing works fine, I was copying files across to it and back again no problem so the MMC card is completely fine, as I have previously posted the cable connection works when you put SonicN in there (or any other N-Gage game for that matter) so the cable's fine. Finally gave up and called Nokia Technical Support. After being on hold for about half hour, then talking to a guy, taking phone apart, putting it back together etc etc, He said "Press the music player button on your phone, right does it bring up an error", "Uhm, yup, memory card corrupt", "Ok, can you re-format the memory card for me", "Sure" *formatting*, "Ok, can you try pressing the music player button again","Ok. Got the play, it says 'Please insert headset or activate loud speaker","Ok, now go into My Computer, is it showing as a removable drive?", "Nope", "Well for want of a better term your N-Gage is knackered. Which area do you live in?"
He then gave me the address of a Nokia Repair Shop near me, god knows how much this is gonna cost, only one way to find out I guess. Only had the phone for a month and it breaks already ;-;
Well frenz..
I think this is just a problem with your mmc.
It happens to me before. At first, it does recognise my n-gage. then after tranfering files and mp3, i disconnect and listen to mp3 as well as playing some games. Then when I reconnect to my pc (with XP) it doesn't detect my n-gage. tried every means to connect but failed. Finally, I format the mmc using n-gage memory apps.
Reconnect to my PC and it works fine. Tried with few mmc brands such as Apacer, Kingston and the one with no brand, all worked fine after formatting.
Most of the mmc comes pre-formatted but I found out in the N-Gage manual that some of the mmc will not work before formatting. So, as a security, I format all of my new mmc with my n-gage before I use it or I'll get some funny problems.
always format the MMC with the gage and it will work again. The solution is formatting. Back up important stuff from the MMC on a drive and then formatting does'nt hurt so much.
by the way buy a 256mb or a 512 mb MMC, they work!!
Yeah, I've formatted all my MMC's and it still didn't work!
After Nokia telling me my phone was screwed I now have a replacement handset all shiney and new 😃 If you still have the receipt take it back to the store you got it from and get them to do a straight swap, that's all I did and it's all hunky-dorey
oh, okay glad you're happy... man that was close...
Get a USB card reader, that will read your memory cards even if your usb cable between the phone and computer has stopped working... Just a hassle to take the card out everytime you need to tranfer anything over. My mate had this problem after formatting his card.
I've tried to reformat the card... Nothing more happened.
The cable seems to be good, since the USB icon appears on the phone, and the card then appears as "in use". I don't know what the problem is, but I don't want to go back to the store and wait 2 weeks before getting my N-Gage again !
Instead of that, I'm using BT, which is cool, but sometimes ths connection stops while transferring files... So I'm using a card writer.
The funniest thing just happened when i connected my P800 to my PC. It wouldn't connect. It did everything all of yours did with the N-Gage, (shows connected but still says not connected or doesnt show in My Computer), and still refuses to connect. Ive had to resort to using Infra red to transfer music. 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😃 😡 😡 😞
If loads of you still cant get it working then it must be a problem that relates to us all, like a virus on our PC's maybe.
