Firmware upgrade problems

I was down at a local Ericsson dealer looking to buy a Bluetooth carkit. While he was giving the sales pitch on the kit, he asked if I had the latest firmware installed. Having just upgraded only a few months ago I thought it was upto date, but when he checked he said there is a newer version available for you, free of charge. So thinking that I had time to spare and backed up the phone only the night before, I would let them do the upgrade.
Came back to the shop about an hour and a half later and found that they had problems with upgrading the phone!..... he said it kept crashing before the update was totally complete!!
Anyway I waited while they tried again and again. The same thing happened .....in total it crashed 3 times.
They said that they would have to sent back to Ericsson and upgraded from their systems, it would take about 7 days....So I drove home with a nice Ericsson Bluetooth carkit installed and NO P800 !!!!
Now its been over 2 weeks...they still have'nt heard from Ericsson about my phone.

Just a note of warning...... Is it worth the hassle of being without your P800 for the latest firmware upgrade? ....especially with a new carkit installed!!!

Has anyone had similar problems?

It is, obviously, if it goes okay! I upgraded mine last Friday and got the same warning that if the upgrade failed, it would be with Sony Ericsson for about two weeks or more. I was told the possibility was so remote that it was worth trying. You are obviously the exception to the rule!
Having just bought my phone and being secondhand, it was on the original firmware so it seems like a new phone now and was definitely worth the effort.

so what's the lastest firmware u r running now? I mean is there a newer version? and is there any changes than the last upgrade? like working as a P900 😃

My phone firmware is R2F which may be, to some, old but you have to remember I was on the original R1 something version before so I have done big jumps!
It is probably nothing like the P900. There is no way that SE will upgrade the P800 to that level or who will buy the P900! It will lose them money.

Now its been over 2 weeks...they still have'nt heard from Ericsson about my phone.

I sent my phone in to Sony repair in late June, it had to be replaced but they were out of stock of new ones and I didn't get one until the second week of September! Hopefully they'll be able to fix yours.

so where can i get these firmware upgrades? im on R1 - how much does it cost?

If you have a quick read through the Sticky at the very top of this page, their is masses of info on getting the firmware upgraded.

How do I check what firmware I have? I think I could do with an upgrade since there are blatantly flaws in many of the apps.

Are any of these fixed in latest firmware? -

- create own folders in sms?

- access sms folders other than inbox in flip-closed mode? very annoying if you write half a text with flip closed then get distracted. You have to open the flip to finish it off. NOT very conveniant in pubs.

- export drawings from jotter as image files?

- on email, option to delete message from phone only, not server as well?

- rename or delete fields on contacts?

- choose default sms number/phone number /email address for each contact (like on series 60)?

- zoom in further than 100% in pictures?

- rearrange icons on menu?

Just a few of my personal niggles with the phone. Overall I'm still really happy though.

if it was from r2d to r2f, that would have been a pretty pointless upgrade, lalalala, 😃

Monday 17th November (4 weeks and 3 days)

It was actually the R2D to R2F upgrade.....

I got a call from the dealer this morning regarding my P800.
'Come down, your phone is here, ready for you to pick up'😃

I made my way down to the dealer.......' Your old unit was deemed IRREPAIRABLE!......'HERE'S A NEW ONE FOR YOU.' 😃

..... of course my old phone was irrepairable....there was absolutley nothing wrong with it!!! 😡

Anyway I am not complaining, I now have a sparkling new P800 (mmmm I should have complained even more about the waiting time....might have got a new P900 instead. 😉

A happy P800 owner, eventually!!
