New PC Suite Release 2.0.1

thanks for the tip. As usual Sony Ericsson does not inform us users that they have released new software. And as usuel there is no information on their download site on what new featuers are in this new version other than "Improved quality"!

And it is still cumbersome to use and slow, all these dialogs you have to click thorugh to synch your phone are ridiculous.

And, worst of all, it still does not synch properly with Outlook, the categories are not mapped at all to the corresponding folders in the phone. I use the Outlook categories to sort all my notes and to do lists, so for this reason alone I consider switching to a Pocket PC based phone, or maybe Nokias upcoming smartphone.
I cannot understand why nu third party developer makes a better synch software, I would gladly pay good money for such a thing!

i agree i would be much happier myself with a pocket pc phone that would be triband. anyone knows any of them coming out soon?

The XDA II is due out any day now and is a TriBand phone running MS Windows for Smartphones 2003 and has bluetooth and an SD card slot in a traditional PDA formfactor. However, it weighs 200g!

the p800 after all is still a smartphone with pda capabilites and not a ful pda.

I am sorry, but that is a real cop out. This phone is pried like a PDA, smells like a PDA and is used like a PDA. SonyEricsson sells it as a device that serves the phone and PDA customer, so support expected for a PDA is definately appropriate.

Whilst I don't work in Symbian I spent many years heavily involved in the Psion community, visiting Psion many times, watching Symbian born..and learning the politics! It was Psion Software that was the initial bread and butter of Symbian and PC Suite shares a lot of heritage with PsiWin for earlier Psion devices.

PsiWin was always flaky when it came to connections with any Windows OS! That tradition has been maintained until now, with no signs of improvement.

Any Windows OS connectibity has been nothing short of crap. Complaining in the early days would yield the response "well, Palm and Pocket PC devices have just as many problems." And to an extent this is true. If you follow the Pocket PC community there are many many problems with ActiveSync...so it is not just Symbian...but Symbian certainly hit the bottom of the pile!

I am skeptical this will change anytime soon!

The problem is that existing phone manufacturers have the lions share of the market...if the devices are selling, there is little motivation to sort matters out! If Nokia had 200,000 customers complain it would be sorted. But I suspect they don't!

And for some reason there is a historic thing that has seen few third party developers attempt the "sync" thingy! I have no idea why, but there you go!

Oh well 😊

Out of interest who's software is it. Is it Sony Ericsson, UIQ or Symbian? Can someone please check the copyright as I dont have a P800 or P900 yet.

I suspect they don't put enough effort into the Sync software because it's probably not used as much as some people think it is. When I get my P900 I just intend to do just one Sync to outlook from my 9210 (for contacts only) then sync that to my new P900. From then on I'll just use the P900 as my PDA, all I'll use my PC for is backups. I have no use for a PIM on a PC as I dont have lots of appointments. I know this does not help people who do want to Sync and agree (from what I've heard) that it needs improvement. Perhaps someone will come up with a good SyncML interface to Outlook which could be used by all SyncML enabled devices?

Its quite frightening but most of the 3650 (as opposed to P800) owners I know have never even connected their handsets to a PC for backup or anything else. In fact a lot of them don't even have a PC 😱

Maybe.. but he is still a Smartphone!
Does a PDA make phonecalls? Does it take pictures?
No... but the P800 can, and he does that the best he can for such as small device, the same with PDA capacity. They are limited but more then enough for the most users.

Don't expect PDAfunction, Phone and Camera to be perfect in just the size of one of those three. Otherwise you will have to buy you a camera, a PDA and a gms. 🙄

What are we discussing here? Sony Ericsson claims that the P800 synchs Outlook with the Notes, todos calendar etc in the phone. The phone has user-definable folders. Outlook has userdefinable folders. For years you have been able to sort your items in thes Outlook folders and you expect them to stay there.
But when synching Outlook with your P800, all your carefully sorted items end up in one big heap. And vice versa, if you organise your P800 items in thos P800 folders, these folders are not found anywhere in your Outlook after your synch.

So this has nothing to do with being a PDA or a phone, it is simply louse programming, the SE people never bothered to support more that the just basic functions of Outlook. This is surely not because of technical limitations of the phone itself.

And even though so many users have complained about this since P800 was launched, SE clearly chooses to just ignore this.

Don't mind Lulu's reply's Henrik, he has reacted to other P800 criticism as well here (mind you, Blue8300 and Lulu are the same person). http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=17371
He apparently thinks we're not allowed to complain about the P800🙄

BTW It would be nice if the syncing feature was better (was great on my old Pocket PC), but since I don't really need it (I never check appointments, etc on my PC, only on my P800😃 ) it's not such a big deal to me
