Shame you couldnt just select 'send and receive' and presto, there are your messages with 1 button click. Downloading xx bytes of each message which is set in options.

Sir,

I have transferred the images from Nokia 6600 mobile phone to PC/Laptap through bluetooth. But I am unable to transfer the SMS from Nokia 6600 to PC/Laptap. Pl. help in this and also suggest how to see those sms in PC/Laptap

for the normal user i would say 6600 and business user should go for SPV

😉

i haven't read all this thread, but, since PageMaker's objective was a professional use, why the heck did he choose a 6600??? and not a real smartphone intended for professional use like the P800 or P900?

and.. SE's PC suite has no connectivity/sync problems, at least i never had, and i've installed it on dozens of pc's (i allways carry the pc suite and the BT drivers on a Mem Stick Duo, along with an "essential apps pack" i've made, quite handy =P )

i'm guessing the problem is on the user itself..
oh and.. the BT drivers indeed have some issues lol, simply to solved by using the Pxxx_Bluetooth_Connector, witch automatically connects to the BT Serial/whatever port of a Pxxx when it's in range. i think it also works with 3650 and so on.

I am thinking of upgrading from MS Smartphone to Nokia 7610, so does anyone know if the issues raised by pagemakers have been addressed in the 7610 OS or is the bluetooth stack still rubbish and the issues he raises with email and internet viewing still exist?

6600: First I must select Contacts (from my shortcut key). Then I type J and I am taken to the beginning of the J's. then I either have to scroll down through all the J's or I type U. Then I select Justin, scroll to the number I want to call and click. Then the phone asks me "call?". I select yes and the call is placed. What I can do in 1 second on the SPV takes me 5 on the 6600.

.

I just got a 6600 and this is an interesting discussion. This is not any type of defense of the 6600, but with contacts, I push the joystick down and contacts comes up (no shortcut key needed), I type the first letter (maybe the 2nd, too) of the name I need, scroll to that name and hit the green "call" button. If the contact only has one number, it is immediately dialed. If there are more numbers, a list of numbers pops up, I scroll to the number I want and hit the green button to call. I have found that it will give you the "call?" prompt if you push the joystick instead of the green button. This does create unneccesary keystrokes.

Overall, though, it does sound like the SPV has a better implementation, especially the smart dialing.

Hi,
To improve on the above... if the contact has multiple numbers, you can set the default number for call, SMS, MMS and e-mail addresses.

Try:

Contact>Options>Open>Defaults

No more choosing of numbers when u hit that green button!

😎 🙄

i'm using 6600 now and planning to replace it with either 7610 or 6230.
reason:
1) big and tick and bulky
2) slow start up and menu toggling, even slower if 128MB(and higher) MMC is used
3) sms -
a) can't save sender tel number directly in contact
b) can't insert name / tel in contact into sms
4) short batt life
5) dropped it once, the key pad light never goes off, thus, consume unnecessary batt
6) Can't change the backlight lited time
7) No FM radio
8) Roundish shape prone to slips from hand (this is serious)

a) Yes you can, open the sms then options/add to contacts.

8)I dont think the shape makes it more prone to being dropped (Try washing the butter from your fingers Lol).

Pagemakers wrote:Basically, I have installed PC Suite to my computer (XP Desktop) and when you click the mRouter icon in the taskbar, you should be able to select one of the virtual com ports for the program to use - say com 5. Then your phone connects to the data suite via Bluetooth and com 5 on your PC. The problem is when you open mRouter there are NO com ports there at all. Without them the data suite doesnt even open!!

This is the 4th day I've had my 6600 and I sill can not get it to connect to any PC. I have 2 different USB Bluetooth dongles (one is TDK) and I have tried to install on 3 different PC's. None work. I did the same installation on my Samsung laptop and it worked first time, but I need to connect to my PC.

Nokia should be ashamed. They have developed a great phone, which is well and truly let down by some second rate software that is so complex to set up. Why oh why didnt the phone come with a USB docking station. If you have ever tried to sync the MS Smartphone with your PC you will know how easy it is. As soon as the phone is placed in the cradle the phone automatically syncs. No buttons to press, no messing around. Make changes on your PC and they are reflected in the phone immediately and automatically and vice-versa.

Even when I have the data suite working on my laptop, starting the Bluetooth connection takes about 10 minutes of messing around. Trying this and trying that. The Nokia manual even tells you to expect errors as the Bluetooth serial connection is made but to disregard them!! If you do noting for several minutes when using the data suite it disconnects from the phone and I see no way of reconnecting again without re-booting the laptop. Crap or what?

I am so mad I could scream. I have totally wasted 4 days of my time just trying to get this setup to work.

Called Nokia and they can not offer much help because "the Bluetooth card is made by a 3rd party".

Called TDK, they said if the virtual ports are viewable in Windows Device Manager (which they are) then the software has installed correctly and the data suite is having a problem connecting to them. I can establish a Bluetooth partnership between my PC and phone, but as I explained above the data suite does not see the com ports.

Back to Nokia..................

Sorry, clicked the wrong button!
I've had similar problems and read about loads of other people having similar problems, so I intend to buy a USB BT adapter with dedicated software which supports the N 6600. That way PC Suite doesn't come in to the equation. Two seem good. Mobile Action's, Fone Data Suite, and Penpower's World Phone Kit. Both claim to support the phone but World Phone Kit says it is the only one to do so! However at 45.00 the cheapest price is 10.00 dearer than Fone Data Suite. Which should I buy?Any idea?

Hello Can Anyone Tell Me How To Transfer My Contacts To The Pc All At Once Using Bluetooth. I Can Transfer Them One By One But Cannot Do It All Together. Await Response Thanks

The Bluetooth connectivity issues are mainly based in the complexity of the bluetooth driver on windows pc + it isn't accepted/integrated in microsoft because ms doen't want anyting to do with bluetooth/java devices.

Widcomm (the only maker of usb bluetooth driver software for usb) is walking distance from me in San Diego, CA. It took me many hours to cofigure and understand everything including mrouter and virutal serial BT connection.

Once I did -- in general -- everything works so well - sync with outlook etc that it almost approaches the reliablity of a usb cable. The problem is the tech knowledge and learning curve is steep. I am open to collaberating with someone to produce a rock solid step by step w/ pictures etc guide so everyone doesn't not need to reinvent the BT / USB / m$ pc windows 2000 xp wheel.

*NOTE* you do NOT need outlook OR Nokia PC suite to test BT connectivity on your pc. You can transfer files to you bt phone within the generic bt sofware to your phone and there by prove the connection is working. Then progress to the virtual serial port / mrouter Nokia pc suite driver interface software.

What an excellent post!

I haven't had any problems myself, but so many people have,i think this is just whats needed.

😊

After reading this thread and having seen it in other threads, I am a little curious about what all the fuss is? I use my 6600 and either of my 2 USB BT adapters at home with my mac. At work I usually only use the thinner of my 2 USB BT adapters (only 'cause it's smaller so fits in the pocket better) on windows PC's. Due to the nature of my work I change companies and pc's regularly so have used these BT adaptors on about 5 different windows (2000/Xp) machines since having the 6600. I have not noticed any difference between the USB BT adaptors other than I must use the right driver CD, Though both use a Widcomm driver (same version number) the driver seems to be locked to a device brand (mine are different brands). this is a little anoying but not all that difficult but most people would only have one BT adaptor so I doubt this is what you are all fussing over.

Other things I have noticed(I hope this helps someone); 1) Windows seems to get a little over which com port it will use for BT comunication (I usually end up with 2 or more from the begining) so the easist way arrount this is in the mrouter properties tick ALL the BT serial ports.
2) Try to allways plug your USB BT adaptor into the _SAME_ USB slot! every time you plug it into a different slot it seems to create another 2 BT serial ports so you will have to go into mrouter and tick the new BT serial ports before mrouter will find the phone.

Now for who to blame for this mess! for issue 1) well not sure wether you should blame Microsoft or Widcomm? I would guess both are partly at fault for this. as for issue 2) well this is really expected behaviour considering that with any USB device you would get similar results as when a device changes location on the USB tree it is considered to be a different device hence the new serial ports.

My final comment is that these issues were there when Nokia were writing mrouter and so I am suprised that thier programmers didn't face these issues themselves. I would think that it would have been better for them to write mrouter to enumerate all BT serial ports and probe them all to see wich one had a Nokia attached to it (Nokia if your listening this would be a good idea for the next version of mrouter). This would improve the user experiance a lot so this is the only thing you can blame Nokia for, not comming up with this idea first.

Please note that intergration between more than 2 IT vendors products is never smooth in the windows world as they all have their own not quite standard version of what the standard is so when you have 3 or more vendors software interacting you are almost garanteed to get compatibility issues.

Summary:
1) In mrouter tick _ALL_ BT serial ports (if you have trouble connecting go into mrouter properties and look for more BT serial ports to tick).
2) ALLWAYS use the same USB slot on your computer.
3) If your still having trouble, get a Mac!

Before any one flames me for that last comment, this is not an appropiate forum for it! I have offered valid windows solutions first from a windows admin with many yaers experiance, I allways say proof is in the pudding, compare how many windows users are still having problems to how many mac users are still having problems. So take your flames elsewhere.

You an delete all messages quite easily... when on the message menu select mark, then mark all, then delete, and it asks if you want to delete x number of messages (however many you have). :icon14:
