Vibrating Alert

put it on silent mode

If I put it on silent mode the phone makes no noise or vibration at all when a message arrives. It vibrates when a call arrives though.

Vibration is set to ON. Silent On.

If I set message alert to OFF - there is no alert at all. If I set it to a ring tone, you can only set the ring to vol 1 not 0. So EVEN in silent mode is makes a noise when a new message arrives.

So I ask again - how can I set the message alert tone to vibrate ONLY?

I have a quick look at my 7110 and I think this is a general Nokia thing... Only solution I can think of is can you set the SMS message sound to a blank sound file? (if that's possible).

And, you are saying that if you set the phone to it's silent profile, it can still make a noise on receiving an SMS? Oh dear, I thought it was just the SPV that didn't understand "silent" 😊

You know, I'm suddenly thinking I might just get a cheaper non-smartphone like the T610 or 7250i.

My settings are exactly the same as my friends 7650. His SMS messages vibrate the phone on Silent. Mine either appear silently with no vibtation or vibrate and ring.

Do you have the possibility to specifiy the wav file to use as message tone? If so, record a silent wav file and use is.

I have explained myself enough in other posts. I am entitled to my opinion and you to yours.

I bought the phone so I could see it for myself first hand. My observations are based on my factual usage of the phone, not rumours and hearsay of others.

I like the phone. The OS is just not for me. Tweaked slightly and I would probabily keep it and only if I could get it to connect to my PC.

Now back on topic - How do you make the sms alert vibrate only?

To get vibrate only.

In profile choose personalise. Then Choose Message alert tone as off, then set Vibrating alert to On.

This seems to have worked for me (at some pouint - can't say I use it now).

Looking at the above posts look like this might not be the case.

Nope - with alert tone off and vibration to on the message arrives silently with no vibration at all. Phone calls vibrate though.

Hmm editied my post above having read through the thread. Maybe the silent ring tone is the only way (and yes does seem strange if I think about it).

Still I'm sure it worked fine for me last time I use it.

This is a classic problem and I agree that there is no option available and the long way round is to record the silent alert tone but get over it. Thats the solution and end of story....bit miffed they havent sorted it out on the 6600 though

Perhaps someone should tell Nokia that we need it, I guess if no one tells them then they wont know to change it.

So does mine but I also get a message alert tone when a new message arrives in the silent profile.

Wierd. Mine won't vibrate for incoming sms either when on silent profile. What software version are you on MDR?

upgrade to the latest firmware.

It resovles this issue.

You can record silent waw, transfer it to the telephone and than choose it as ring sound. That way you will not get any sound but telephone will vibrate.
I don't know about new firmware, because I didn't upgrade my telephone yet but it would be nice from nokia to solve �small� problems like these.
