I tried sending some files to other nokia phones through IR (mostly ringtone '.rng' files) but so far i've only been able to send it to err... that orange phone... cant remember wat the model number is... oh and another phone as well... but also i cant remember wat it is... both obviously have IR. Anyway it can play the ringtones that i send.
Now i tried sending files through IR to a 6100 and 7250 phones but they can't seem to be able to receive any of them. Does anybody know why?
6100 and 7250 can only receive contacts with ir they can't receive other files like photos and ringtones, only contact cards
Will there be a firmware update on these phones (6100 & 7250) to accept files other than contacts from their IR port?
Because, I have also experience this problem when i tried to send MIDI files to these phones.
i don't think this is goning to be updated, it is a bit point less i you can only send contacts. but i don't think they will update this
that's true.. it is pointless. I don't know why they disabled it for latest phones like the 7250 while older models like the 5210 (yeah now i remember which phone it was) can receive .rng files from a 3650 thru IR.
Atleast they should allow photos and ringtones to be exported from the 7650 if not receive...
I presumed it was down to incompatabilities in the operating systems and the way the files are encoded?

I dont think that's the case. All the file format like pictures and sounds are in the same format. Pictures jpeg files, polyphonic in midis and monotones .rng. The only other problems are the picture size for jpeg images and the amount of channels used for midi files but even though, we should be allowed to send. And for files which are not compatible, it would be able to be played or shown.
Other than PC Suite I use a 3rd party software to connect two phones to my PC, my sister's 3100 and my dad's 7250. I could browse the phone without the restrictions made by nokia's PC Suite (like you can't view files which originally came with the phone). Anyway, I tried sending some midi files to the 3100 and 7250 which I know can't be played on those phones and it worked. I mean i could send them through the DKU cable for 7250. But ofcourse, I wasn't able to play the files. It just says error.
I dont know why im saying all these here - just maybe someone from nokia might just pass by here and see this... hmm?? 😃
