I just sighned up for itunes (want to dl legal music 🙄 now) and the file format is a "protected AAC". Does anyone know how to convert that the the .ogg format.
I want to dl music and use my p800 as an 128mb ipod w/ the.ogg software installed. I should be able to fit alot of tracks on my DUO using this lossy format.
If you're looking to go legitamate and stay legal, I don't think you are allowed to convert the files. It's one of those wierd legal things. You've paid for the thing, but you're only allowed to use it on your PC using iTunes, or on an iPod. Surely you remember reading that bit in the terms and conditions you read through before signing up 😃
No I didnt read 😮 . Just sighned up and started down loading. Thank god they only got me for a buck. O well....I tryed to go legit.
What about the new Napster service. Same costs as iTunes but a bit more flexible in terms of what you can do with the files. I don't know the exact details though. It only launched last week and I haven't had time to have a good look through.
Worth a try for 99c !
While Napster may be more lax than iTMS, I doubt very much if it'll allow you to convert the songs into a non-DRM'ed format like Ogg - that would kind of defeat the point of having the DRM in there in the first place.
Best bet - at least with the iTMS stuff - is to burn it to audio CD then re-rip it in Ogg using other software. That's pretty much the only easy way to strip the DRM protection out of the file. It's not ideal as two step format conversion will reduce quality slightly, but anything else gets more complicated.
Another way is to get hold of some of the software around that 'highjacks' the audio stream so you can capture it and re-encode it in MP3/Ogg - however that has the downside of being only 1X speed.
But that's the whole point of the DRM schemes, it's supposed to be difficult to remove them unfortunately. And hang the fact that you may actually have legit reasons to want the music you've bought in good faith to be vailable to you in other formats. Personally, I don't think I'd bother with online music downloads, even if had access to them (I don't pretty much, because I'm in the EU). If I pay for a tune, I want to be able to hear it on any device I want to use to play music, not just the ones they decide to let me use.
Whoops, that turned into a bit of a rant didn't it? 😊.
You can burn a cd with the songs then rip it in ogg...
Maybe this will alter the sound quality tough, just try.
I don't see any legal problem here. You can use the songs on 3 computers + ipods + Cds. Consider the P900 as one of the 3 computers...
Hi, if you are using a Mac the only thing you can do is buy Quick Time Pro, then you have to export your AAC to AIFF and that file drop in the application called Ogg Drop which will convert it to ogg. format.
Then you still have to send them over bluetooth to your P800. A big workaround but that's why it's nice that P900 supports MP3!!
Good luck, let me know.

Do I have to use iTunes to burn the CD? What file format does it convert the Protected ACC to? Wav.
