Does everyone in this forum own a p900 now as it seems that new threads are becoming rarer by the days. sniff , i know SE is abandoning us by coming out w/ the p900 so fast!! Its dictatorship as they could care less now about the $900 i spent on my phone. Anyway thanks to a post in this forum i am now so impatient to get my hands on the new XDA II, at least there is hundreds more programs available from developpers w/ WIN CE O/S .. Sorry SE but still waiting for a camera app and much more!
p900 post your comments
technology is a fast-moving industry and they have to keep up (or beat) the competition if they want to succeed. i think it's obvious to everyone who's used the P800 that it has flaws and with phones coming out with 65K screens, the P800 definately needed an upgrade. but at least you can bet that you'll have a decent amount of time using the P900 before it becomes a predecessor, unlike Nokia who shell out a dozen phones every month and make you feel you're REALLY cheated into buying that phone just last week ..
BTW, there is a P900 section on the forum. Please post your P900-related topics in there.
im getting my P900 this week,i already sell my P800... can't wait😃
Moved.
mrgadget,i really don't know why are you feeling abandoned. The new "update from home service" can be used with the p800,you can probably expect many bugfixes and solutions to your p800 problems in the near future.Maybe even a firmware upgrade adding MS Duo Pro support in the p800,a lot of things could happen.
The p900 is great,i will get one,but only because i don't already own a p800.If i were a p800 owner like you i would've probably kept my p800 a lot longer.I'm still using a 7650.
ghostdog wasn't aware of a update from home service ,could you please explain and may be even post a link, thx.
It hasn't started yet,but when it will start you will be able to download the firmware and manually flash any Sony Ericsson phone, including the p800.
Grear news thanks ghostdog 😉
I ordered from Expansys on 25 October and got it two days ago. By my guess, they sold out all of their ~350 unit allotment rather quickly (no surprise.)
Short review - it rocks. Even seemingly little improvements make this a lot better than the P800. With the HBH-30 headset I found on eBay, and the Pocketop keyboard (the beta drivers work quite well), this is all I'll need for a while. Now if I can just get my Comcast email account to work...
😃
I've been playing with my P900 for a couple of days, having upgraded from my faithfull P800 and these are just a few of my personal observations. Others will probably totally disagree but ...
1) I far prefer the design and feel of the P900. Just feels so much more professional. The P800 was a great phone but I never liked the blue design.
2) The screen is much better and the 64k colours are great. The icons look a little odd to me. Can't put my finger on why but I'm sure I'll get used to them.
3) I have found myself actually using this flip on the P900. The cheap and nasty flip on the P800 was removed within 2 minutes of having it but the electronic keys on the P900 are actually usable.
4) T9 !!! At last.
One thing I really miss about my P800 is that little space under the cover for hiding away spare memory sticks (stuck on with dead technical blue tack).
Anyway ... just a couple of thoughts. Overall I would deffo recommend upgrading (but at 600 odd quid really only something for geeks).
P900 is definitely more polished than the P800. For me personally, the attention to detail is far better in everyway.
The proper flip makes the phone useful for one handed operation!!! My understanding of the design philisophy of UIQ is that it was designed for two handed use...unlike Series 60. I always hated that on the p800 - the jog dial didnt go far enough. It is now possible to quickly do things without opening the flip in a more conventional way.
The casing, screen etc. - all better. But the software touches are more important.
e.g. touch the sound icon on bottom bar - and you can from that screen disable or enable vibrate. Far more user friendly.
e.g. jog dial works differently allowing access to menus.
None of the changes are so significant - but the smaller ones all add up to make this a much better device.
Worth the upgrade? Well we will all have our opinions but if you are a heavy user of your current p800 and are happy with it, then the p900 is worth it.
if you never liked the p800 i would not be convinced the p900 is so vastly different to change your mind.
One other improvement on P900:
Now you can browse and download weather/currency updates directly using the connection on your PC via the craddle.
These is just an example of minor improvements which really put an icing on the cake.

Well I've had my P900 for a couple of days now (hence I've been very quiet 😉) and I'm very impressed with it now I've installed the excellent SMan process monitor+. Why the P900 does not come with an application manager like SMan built in beats me. I like to know whats going on with my device and stop erronious tasks, see the true file structure, etc.
The only thing I miss from my 9210 is (of course) the keyboard. However I quite like T9 in flip closed mode and I'm getting better with the handwriting recognition with the flip open, even though I'm not very keen on it as a method of text entry in principle. The on screen keyboard is acceptable and I'm not sure which input method I will end up using in the long run.
The rest seems great. The camera was better than I thought it would be, it's even fun taking short Video clips. The MP3 playback seems OK although I need to use this more.
Web browsing seems very good using the built in browser for WAP and Opera for WWW. This is my first phone with GPRS and I'm very impressed with it the speed is quite good. The E-Mail software is quite adequate for my needs. All in all I thinks its a much better internet device then the 9210 (mainly because of the GPRS).
Installing software is very straightforward and there seems to be some good 3rd party software out there.
Build quality seems very good but will only be determined by the test of time.
Oh and it even makes a half way reasonable mobile phone 😉
Looks like muzikfreakahs getting the P900 too!!! The only thing thats holding me back is that it doesnt support the Memorystick duo pro yet 😞 Why??? 😞 Is it just a driver problem? The 256 and 512 duo pro sticks are already out in the market 😞 why didnt they make the P900 handle it? 😞
Agreed!
128 MB maximum Sony memory stick is the worst thing about the device.
well i played with the p900 today. had it for a while. but the price is way off ppl. grey its sellin for $800 nd official its for $900. thts a lot. i have used the p800 b4. i was considering gettin the 6600 soon but then this phone is a good alternative as well. i loved the screen so big and the cute stylus tht comes with it is so much better than on the p800. overall a good phone and i will wait till the grey mart. prices go down .
I must just check with you guys who got P900 like me. When I picked up my box at post office I was suprised why I got that big box but then I saw they put a very beautifull big towel inside showing a big big P900! Did you all got that? I never heard any mention that earlier so just curious.
I got no towel 😞
I've been ripped off 😉
Wops, to bad because it was very nice. Maybe they sent it just from that Internet shop or just for customer in Sweden. The P900 covered the hole side of the towel and is in same color as the phone. When have time will try to send a pic of it.
just got my p900 yesterday. havent really got the time to go through it fully.. it seems much more sturdy than my older p800. T9 is ast & very helpfull... its a real blessing.(i yet prefer the keyboard of my 9210 though)
one big problem i have with this phone... the network quality is very very very poor. when i use my 6310 i get full network in my house & when i insert my SIM in the p900, the network never goes above 3 bars (out of five). what the hell is this. yesterday it never went over 2bars, today its almost stable at 3bars...almost like it learning the network or something. im very unhappy with the network part. whats the use of all this power in your hand when u cant talk to anyone. sometimes i actually have to go to my window in order to talk to people. its very bugging.
the card reads slowly, maybe cause its a bigger memory card, what wilhappen if i use the 128MB one.
handwritting recognition seems to be faster. im finally getting used to it.
if someone calls you & u want to add that no to your contact list, you yet cannot add it to an existing contact... i cant keep making new contacts for every phone no of the same people.
video recorder is excellant..really loving this.
excellant tones..there should have been more ring tones, maybe there are more on the CD, i havent used that yet.
im having a lot of problems loading pages using the inbuilt browser, it keeps saying this page has errors & cannot be displayed, the same page displays on my 6310 without any errors? any one hepl me with this?
file manager...an excellant touch & functional as well. more games would have been fun..again maybe on the cd.
th display/background function is really well done up, ilove how you can resize the pic in real time. im surprised there is no brightness/contrast control
the screen is definately better in sunlight.
battery lasts me a day and a half max, maybe cause ive just got it & im always playing with it any min i get.
its definately a good looking phone...a definate eye turner.
i hoped the spekerphone would be a bit more louder(like the 9210)
very good & sturdy keypad as well, the buttons feel very good & nicely backlit as well.
have to yet try & sync it with my comp.
just one question?...does all the p800software work on the p900?
i'll have to try that as well.
more as i explore more.
all & all an excellant phone...but bad reception, i wish i could get something done about it...causeif this remains like this, im selling this phone fast... no use for me at all...but then i dont know which phone to buy as i dont like the 6600...used it already...XDA has no keypad..then im back to my commie..too bad if this is true.
im going for a holiday to a place wherethe network on my 6310 also catches about 2-bars...so im guessing that this phone will show emergency calls only...so im carrying both phones to compare... lets see what happens then.
all the best!!!

Proud owner since October 23rd 2003. Pics are linked to my website (look @ my signature). I've had quite some time to work out the raw and rigorous task of this unit. Strange thing is most consumers that have purchased their units 2 weeks after I got mine are seeing a lot of bugs... The only bugs I have seen are only software related...
How could anyone resist not getting one.. Vast difference.. The 65k color is my favorite.

And which built-in app offers weather and currency information? I've just gone through my P900 and I can't find anything it.
He probably means WorldMate.
