Recently several programs have been released for Series 60 with the intention of helping you find you way around, ranging from European wide solutions down to individual towns and cities. The Wayfinder, gpMobile and TomTom City Map programs demonstare the flexibility of Series 60. With the addition of a bluetooth GPS these programs should ensure you're never lost again (except when you forget the phone...). Here's a quick run down of all three programs.

Wayfinder is a European wide (soon to be extened to North America) navigation program. The program allows you to specify a route which is then sent to a server which returns a map and instructions. When packaged with a GPS receiver the instructions are automatically updated as you drive along. The software intelligently moves on to the next direction once you have passed certain points. Instructions are read out by the software giving you audio commentray on which turns to take, in addition to the onscreen directions. Wayfinder can be purchased withs a bluetooth GPS option or as a service only plan.

gpMobile is a similar product for the American market. It is priced at $12.95 for a subscription that supports GPS or at $5.95 a month for a non GPS support version.

TomTom City Maps are aimed at a different market. Each program costing just $5 is one city or town in Europe (full list below). Intended as street navigators the programs help you find you wat round a city street. All the necessary data is on the phone and no server connections are required (the data for each city if approximately 1MB). You can use the products either as a pedestrian (in which case pedestrian shortcuts are highlighted) or as a car user (in which case pertinent road information is indicated).

not to sure if the average user of the nokia series 60 would be able to afford a bluetooth gps,

i already have a Garmin emap gps unit which have the points of interest on boad this also will show you the telephone numbers.

i will buy the tomom and compare

The gpmobile gps system with the bluetooth gps reciver should come out for the P800. I wonder if the processor is fast enough in the p800 to do real time tracking on a map using the bluetooth gps unit?

What do yall think?

Rafe - did you test any of the units with a Bluetooth Headset / Car Kit at the same time? My understanding is that the Series60 phones only support 1 Bluetooth connection at a time, and hence this makes the applications less useful (unless you rely on a wired headset).

Thanks,

Steve

I bought Helsinki City Maps (TomTom), and unfortunately this map is incomplete. Helsinki metropolitan area is made from three very tight linked cities, Helsinki, Vantaa and Espoo. Unfortunately, the west part of Espoo was cut away from this map, and without this part the whole map is almost useless for Helsinki residents.

This means you have to take your own risk to buy an incomplete map as there are no way to check in advance what it is included in the maps and what not.

I wrote an e-mail to TomTom to ask about it and I received no answer. And also I wrote a review about the map at Handango from where I bought the map, but the review didn't appeared on Handango site. Seems that Handango will accept only positive reviews so the sales based on these will increase, and more people will buy an useless map...

i have problem in some citymaps. i cannot use the "find" feature.
the maps with "tick" are the maps i have problem.
(i have 7650) where can i find gps module for my phone?
