why wont the nokia 6600 display animated gif's the ones ive downloaded only display the 1st frame and no others

Display where? Gallery? MMS editor? Idle screen (background/wallpaper)?
They won't animate as a wallpaper, if that's what you are expecting.

Will they work as screen savers, like they did on my old t68i? I had a great LOTR animated GIF screensaver I was hoping to port over once tools for the 6600 became available.

i can not confirm this.
If i open a gif in the messwage, it is animadet.(even better then in the 7650: it do not stop after one loop.
If the gif. is saved in the gallery, u can only see it normal.
(but any-viewer is a freeware-progy what can do this)
If i put one gif for screensaver, it works fine @ my 6600.
(take the newest version out there, i installed v.1.42)

How exactly did you set the animated gif to be your screensaver? I thought hte tools weren't available yet?
And did it actually animate?
me too im using v1.42 and its working fine. just download it on psiloc
Can some advise me how to set animated background, Eprofiles pro 1.32 and smart profiles 1.04 do not work on 6600😞
maybe a link for any-viewer wouldnt go a miss. I've been having the same problem with my n-gage the gifs go through 1 movement instead of looping but if I open them in a multimedia message they do loop.However I wanna be able to view them properly in gallery. I've looked for the program and I cant find it
Thankyou GhostDog this is extremely helpful. It seems our friend further above has mispelt aniviewer no wonder I couldnt find it.
No problem.
When i try to install the aniviewer on my 6600 it says file corrupted!, i don't know what to do about that 😞
