Want to go to a comet?

Would you like to fly and check out a comet? Well, I'm sorry, you can't do that just now, but you can send your name instead.
Go to http://deepimpact.jpl.nasa.gov/sendyourname/

Scientists expect to find hidden clues about how the solar system formed when they look at the structure of Comet Tempel 1. Deep Impact will be the first mission to make a spectacular, football-stadium-sized crater, seven to 15 stories deep, into the speeding comet. Dramatic images from both the flyby spacecraft and the impactor will be sent back to distant Earth as data in near-realtime. And you can have your name put on the impactor spacecraft that crashes into Comet Tempel 1 July 4th 2005.

and???

im sorry but i dont see the point of putting my name on a disk and sending it out to space.

if it was on the space ship itself.......

At the risk of incurring significant flamage...

1) Religion & Science are convergent, in that they both seek to explain (or not, as the case may be) our continued existence.

2) A large number of people got very upset when someone made a football stadium sized crater in the middle of Manhattan recently in the name of the former.

3) Has anyone checked to see if comets have any form of life on them yet, as we prepare to do the same in the name of the latter?

Really wouldn't want to see an alien GWB declaring a cometary "War on Terror" and dropping a few thousand tonnes of hypersonic ice onto us in the name of "Freeing microbiological organisms from their human aggressors".

If there was life on a comet it wouldn't be intelligent, not that I am claiming life on Earth is, for the exact reasons you posted above.

Anyway I am going to COMET then DIXONS. For anyone not in the UK - these are high street electrical stores.
