I want to transfer my txt messages from a 7650 to my new 6600, and a thread in the 7650 forus suggests using forward.sis and eFileManager.sis but I can't figure out how to do it.
Can anyone help? Ideally I'll like to transfer over the whole directory structure from the 7650 into my 6600 into my new MMC card.
Kingmax 256MB card from eBuyer at 41.99+VAT works fine
Thanks
It was me that posted about that subject. If you want to know how I did it just PM me ok? It's kind tricky and I don't have time right now to post a even a little HOW TO.
Even if you cant post a how to do it, I'd appreciate a few short instructions or an email to me at SPAM.
I have tried sending individual files via IR to the 6600 from the 7650 but the cannot be read by the 6600 in the inbox.
thanks
What we are trying to do is to MIRROR all the files and directory tree from the Nokia 7650 C:\System\Mail to either Nokia 6600 Phone (C:\System\Mail) or MMC memory (E:\System\Mail).
-.What do we need?
We need Forward and eFileManager (anyother file manager will do) installed and runnig. You can get this programs right here:
Forward 1.21
eFileManager 1.62 Demo
-.How can we transfer all the files?
We'll use BLUETOOTH (faster and easier than IrDA).Pair both devices(I asume you already know how to do that) and do as follows:
Create [C\E]:\System\Mail_tmp in your 6600
Browse your 7650 C:\System\Mail and copy all the directory tree in the dir you've just created.
Now you have to go folder by folder doing this:
- Mark all the files
- Send them via BT to your Nokia 6600
- DO NOT try to open them as messages, leave them alone.
- Open forward
- Now you have to go file by file and press:
- Options > Copy file > [C:\System\Mail\.............]
-Once you've done it, go to messaging and delete them all
-Go for the next folder.
Once you've done all the mirroring delete [C\E]:\System\Mail and rename [C\E]:System\Mail_tmp to [C\E]:System\Mail
I hope I've been usefull.
Ok, so this weekend I have spend I cant count how many hours creating the directory structure in "E" which is on my MMC card and the structure is the same except the mail file is called "Mail_temp" instead of "Mail".
Some observations. The "forward" App is superb, but it only copies 78 files at a time, but no probs, I got over that.
Next the Index file in the 7650 was 323kB, but only 314kB in the 6600, but I'm guessing some comprssion took place during the bluetooth file transfer.
Now, I guess I need to merge my new 6600 messages on "C" into the 7650 messages I have on "E"? but how.
Can you give me some tips on the next steps?
Your advice has been much appreciated, and I'd be interested if anyone else is doing this.
Thanks again...John
I said nothing about merging 😞 In fact I have all the messages I've recived untill the "operation" in the phone and the backup and current working message inbox in the MMC.
If anyone knows how to merge it, but I think it will be WAY TOO difficult or messy.Anyway, help will be apreciated.
Well I did it; renamed the Mail_temp file to Mail and automagically all my txts are on the MMC card, and my set up is like your now.
I very much appreciate your tip. Thanks again 😊
hi, thanks for your tip on transferring sms from 7650 to 6600.
now my sms are in the mmc card... is it possible to move them to the phone memory?
i do have some smses in a folder in the phone memory but not in the inbox.
also, do u know how to move sms from 6510 to the 6600?
thanks!
Hey guys,
I cant seem to do it!
Please help me...
Where is it going wrong? Dont forget to very carefully compare teh directory structure on both phones (same number of files and size) - I had to do quite a few corrections.
And when all done, rename the memory on the mmc card
Im sorry, i dont want to sound stupid, but i cant understand what deathmonger means by the following:
Create [C\E]:\System\Mail_tmp in your 6600
Browse your 7650 C:\System\Mail and copy all the directory tree in the dir you've just created.
I am not a technical person, so I hope you guys will find time to help me and explain it to me clearly.
You need to install eFileManager in both fones, and create that directory in your MMC card for E or in fone for C.
But if you use C, you will lose the msgs you receive in the phone, so best to use E and you can have two sets of messages and phone settings.
Ok thanks a lot!
I will try it later, and then I will just inform you if i was finally able to do it.
Thanks again!
Ciao!
Almost thought the method above had not worked, till i switch my 6600 off and back on again.
The messages have become visible in the Inbox but cannot be opened -
Is there now a more robust way of copying txts across? :?

It is 6 months since I did this, but when you do it, you loose all the messages in your 6600 that are on the memory card. You need to very carefully check the names of all the files and the sizes and names of the directories. Believe me, it took me many hours of double checking before I was sure I had done it right.
I am wondering if the following would work, since we are essentially transferring the folders and files over from phone to phone, wouldnt it be easier if:
1. Have PC Suite installed, and it has backed up the 7650 using it. I would be able to find all files under C:\Nokia\Nokia 7650\backup\Internal\system\Mail.
I can then use a MMC reader (and put in my MMC card) and access and create the \System\Mail_tmp folder on the card and transfer all the files and directories over using Windows Explorer (or whichever file manager you are using for different OS).
Insert back to the phone and rename (or you may rename it before pluggin back to your phone as well).
I have not tested the above (would do so in a few hours), but that should logically work and should actually saved hours of work (by the way, FORWARD does not work properly with my 6260) wouldnt it?
Comments?

I have successfully done it!
However, things to take note would be:
while accessing the new phone (in my case 6260), under C:\System\, you have got to rename C:\System\Mail to something else first (I renamed it to C:\System\Mail_old.
Once you have done that, copy the E:\System\Mail to C:\System. This is because the 6260 does not allow the file "index" to be renamed or copied.
After you have done copying, switch off your phone and re-switch it on again. I was able to access all the messages which I copied from the 7650 I had.
As for the moving of sms from 6600 to the mmc card, I believe the steps should be the same.
Copy from C:\System\Mail (the entire folder), and paste to E:\System\Mail. This should give you a full back up of the sms to the mmc card (I am not too sure whether this works, I have not tried it as I have only got one phone with MMC capabilities.
Let me know.

can you also do this method from 6630 to 6600?
