Delayed on Orange until January

33 replies · 7,417 views · Started 25 November 2003

I've just called the company I 'bought' my 6600 from and they told me they'd heard there were rumours about the phone not being released until January. I called Orange and they said "late-december to early January". So, who's for a P900 then?

No.

Waiting for the 6600 on Orange.

Don't like Sony phones, plus bigger and chunkier than the 6600.

Also I SMS a lot, typing with a pen instead of two fingers will be slow.

And the Orange sales people will not know about pre-release phones, have called and emailed in the past. They probably guess a release date. As it's now on the Orange site and has been for weeks it's must be due soon. A delay is good, lets them work out any software bugs also.

I am a little suspicious that maybe its taking longer than they first thought....

I too have heard January from a couple of sorces, but have heard 50 different dates from others...

I am nearly persuaded to go for the P900 oh so very much especially when I was testing in carphone warehouse the other day and it would seem like an upgrade to the 7650 whereas the 6600 has only small differneces but I really dont want to move away from Nokia...I think I will hold out too.

Yeah I seem to remember they were quite quick with the 7110 when it came out but I just think its extra annoying that this was supposed to be their phone and they were gonna be first and how annoying is it when you walk into like phones 4u or carphonewarehouse only to see the little card for the phone has prices just for the Orange Tariff yet everytime you ask about it its only available on O2 and Vodaphone...

Just called mobileshop.com and they told me probably after christmas.Orange is starting getting on my nerves...😡

That's odd. Orange phoned me up yesterday and told me it was out. (They'd been phoning me on and off for a few months, nagging me to upgrade. I eventually told them that I would when the 6600 was out.) I didn't have much time to speak to them, but she was trying to push a 45/month tariff with which you get the phone free. (You can change tariff after 3 months).

I'll let you know more when they ring back.

but the p900 is much more powerful and you don't have to text with the pen as it has t9, on board keyboard or multitap

what mobileshop told me is that orange have problems with the phone's software and functions and they want to sort out everything first before they get it to the shops.
I have my 512MB MMC waiting here but i dont have the phone...😞

At the end of the day Orange should release more reliable phones because they wait for more mature software with less bugs in it.

As of SMS keying on the P900, I have tried Sony phones for T9 before, and the space was on key 1 not 0, and I don't seem to remember punctuation being as simple as Nokia either - personal preference I suppose, and many happy years of the Nokia T9 keypad layout.

Well, I ordered my 6600 from Orange!

Got it free on a 50/month contract, which I'll change after three months.

Should arrive soon! I'll keep you posted 😊

well done m8.did you buy it directly from orange? how much did it cost? how much is, if you choose the 30pounds tariff?

keep us posted on when you get this phone mate or if they tell you you have to wait as i have it on order from a couple of places.....

Bought it off NER, which are the handset representatives for Orange.

I got it on the 50 tariff, because you get the phone free. You're only locked into it for three months, so I'll change after that. The next tariff down (I think 35?) the phone would have cost 100.

This is my first contract phone (that's in my name, anyway) so they'll call back in a week with a security/credit check.

Orange have pulled the phone from thier website ditto who I ordered with.

You wont see the stock turn up there looking at a launch of 4th Jan

Just spoke to Orange upgrades department and the date is now 29th of December.....

HAHA Happy Christmas!

I totally agree with you

The fact you are using this forum should mean you are clued up enough whether or not to choose to act upon this sort of advertising which is not exactly intrusive.

Infact the reason I have put the information on there is because many people on this forum like to utilise the newer functions of their phones and the Video Service accompanying The Salon is the First Video to Mobile service for a mainstream TV production in the WORLD.

I am now working in this industry due to the informaing of modern technologies in Forums like this one so I would be grateful to find out about these things.

Think about that in the future.

One of the problems with 6600 on Orange is that the current phones dont support CPHS. This means if you use it on Orange , as I do now, you wont get informed of new voicemail. Apparently this was a problem with the 3650 and the 7650 before it, no idea why nokia cant sort these things out before releasing the phone.

Doesent that effect Call Waitng as well cant remeber?

The fact that the phone has a Voicemail Indicator system on it and other networks seem to be able to succsesfully launch Series 60 phones with Indicators suggests that its a limitation with Orange and not Nokia. For whatever reason they have not included it with Series 60 phones.

call waiting works afaik. other networks don't use the CPHS spec system to notify of voicemail (tape spool symbol) they use sms (which is rubbish if you ask me). anyway this means currently the 6600 like the 3650 and 7650 before it wont support voicemail notification on either Orange or T-Mobile in the UK. Nokia eventually fixed the firmware on both previous s60 phones so I would assume they are working on doing this now.

Heya guys - sorry to mislead you all. NER have just called me back, and said it's out of stock. They asked if I still wanted to place the order. I declined - so I'll be considering other networks now, if Orange can't get it to me in time.

Yeah, I'm fairly annoyed, because they said they had them in stock last time I spoke to them. But that's life, I guess.

Good luck to all of you waiting for the release.

I just got an SMS - SIM UPDATE after someone left me a voice mail. After I deleted it I got another SMS welcoming me to Egypt (I am in london) so that weird..

If this limitation is now fixed in other S60 phones then why havent orange realeased the 3650?
I suspect it's too late now, especially now the 6600 is due. However, the N-Gage and the 3660 use the same software base as the 3650, and Orange have already announced plans to release the N-Gage, so I suspect the 3650 firmware was fixed partly due to it being a bug, and partly to show Orange it was now fixed for the other phones which use the same sw base.
