Voda UK users: Wap and MMS - 8799 is the magic number

Apologies if this has already been posted, but I have not found the info anywhere else on the board....

Enabling MMS and Wap browsing functionality on the 6600:
The two vital pieces of missing information are the "proxy ip address" and the port number of the proxy.

I had guessed correctly that 212.183.137.012 was the proxy address (the same as the old "wap gateway" ip address used in all pre-wap 2.0 phones), but how could I have guessed that the correct port number is 8799 ?

With this information I was able to configure GPRS access points for Wap browsing and MMS messaging - both now work - Finally !

Following on from my previous post, here are the details of my three GPRS Access Points needed to unlock all the 6600's functionality on Vodafone UK contract. Note that you must have had your sim-card data / gprs AND MMS enabled by Vodafone before this will work. Enjoy !

For standard web access using the opera browser and to use email in Messaging use this Connection - not sure if pre-pay customers have access to this - try it and see:

Connection name: Vodafone WEB
Data bearer: GPRS
Access point name: internet
User name: web
Prompt password: No
Password: web

For wap access i.e. to Vodafone Live! using the Services application, use this Connection:

Connection name: Vodafone WAP
Data bearer: GPRS
Access point name: wap.vodafone.co.uk (pp.vodafone.co.uk for pre-pay customers)
User name: wap
Prompt password: no
Password: wap
Authentication: Normal
Homepage: http://live.vodafone.com
Advanced settings:
Phone IP address: Automatic
Primary name server: 0.0.0.0
Second. name server: 0.0.0.0
Proxy server address: 212.183.137.012
Proxy port number: 8799

For MMS messaging, use this Connection. Remember to select it using the Multimedia Settings within Messaging:

Connection name: Vodafone MMS
Data bearer: GPRS
Access point name: wap.vodafone.co.uk (pp.vodafone.co.uk for pre-pay customers)
User name: wap
Prompt password: no
Password: wap
Authentication: Normal
