Hi,
I do not have a real Series 60 phone to test, so I am asking how much KBytes the OPL Runtime uses for a "Hello World" example.
I have searched for the operating RAM and maximum heap size of some S60 phones. Could you help me complete the list ?
Model operating RAM max. heap
Nokia 7650/3650 : 3-3.5 (?) MB, 1.4 MB
Nokia N-Gage : ? MB, 2.8 MB
Nokia 6600 : 6 (?) MB, 3.0 MB
Sendo X : 6 MB, ?? MB
Siemens SX1 : 6 MB (?), ?? MB
These data are important to know if large apps can be ported to Series 60, with lots of memory allocation data, etc.
By the way, the P800/900 seems to have 8 MB of maximum heap.
And the new S60 machines have more available operating RAM than the Nokia 92xx Communicator (about 3.5 MB)...
Thanks in advance,
Roberto Colistete Jr.
After researching in forums and sites :
Model operating RAM max. heap
Nokia 7650/3650 : 3-3.5 MB, 1.4 MB
Nokia N-Gage : 11 MB, 2.8 MB
Nokia 6600 : 6 (?) MB, 3.0 MB
Sendo X : 6 MB, ?? MB
Siemens SX1 : 4 or 6 MB (?), ?? MB
So some guys have confirmed that the N-Gage thas a huge 11 MB of available RAM (from 16 MB, the Symbian OS uses 5 MB), so running simultaneously Opera and other apps is not anymore an issue (if using N-Gage).
I am curious about some confirmation of the available RAM of the SX1, as well as the max. heap of Sendo X and Siemens SX1.
Please, if you have more data, posts it here.
Thanks,
Roberto
Some forum guys helped to complete the table :
Model operating RAM max. heap
Nokia 7650/3650 : 3-3.5 MB, 1.4 MB
Nokia N-Gage : 11 MB, 2.8 MB
Nokia 6600 : 6 (?) MB, 3.0 MB
Sendo X : 6 MB, ?? MB
Siemens SX1 : 9 MB, 2 (?) MB
The 2 MB limit for the heap size on SX1 is yet to be confirmed by any official doc of Siemens, I got this from a forum discussion. But the 9 MB of free RAM is the result of running Switcher on a brand new SX1, but not mine 😞
So the 2nd generation Series 60 phones have between 2 to almost 4 times the free RAM of Nokia 7650/3650.
