Networking with bluetooth

I've searched the 6600 forum but couldn't find any comments about PC/networking and the 6600.

I think it is common knowledge that on the 7650/3650, you could connect a Bluetooth serial port between the phone and the PC running mRouter (part of PC Suite). As if my magic, the phone then had full Internet access courtesy of your PC enabling you to check e-mail, etc.

As far as I can tell, this no longer works on the 6600.

First, the access point 'trick' used to fool the built-in e-mail program doesn't work. Now, if I create a Bluetooth access point, e-mail will actually try and connect to a GPRS access point on the network which of course doesn't exist. There doesn't appear to be any other way to get the in-built programs to even try to use the bluetooth serial port.

Second, other applications that do try to use the bluetooth connection, if it exists, also fall foul since it appears mRouter no longer routes to anything other than the local machine. I know this because I can get a HTTP request to IIS running on the PC, but external websites all time out. This implies the phone is fine, but mRouter itself is either not working - or - has been nobbled.

So, has anyone tried this and got it to work?
Does anyone care that they can no longer network with their PC?
Is this deliberate or just a bug ?

HI!...

I think that it's possible to make the connection...

But it's happening the same that with GPRS config...

Now we have other options like dns and proxy server with port...

May be to get connected with the PC now it's different too...

I don't know exactly how to create the Access Point to use with PC... on 7650 was with the Default AP with no changes ...

Now with this new parameters i don't know what we can do about it ...

😕

cya!

😎

Right, in theory it would be possible to install a proxy server on your PC and configure an access point to use your PC as proxy. This might get round the apparant problem that mRouter no longer routes.

However, I still can't see how to get programs such as Services and Messaging to use an access point set up in this way - they all dial an imaginary GPRS access point instead.

Try enabling ICS and put

0.0.0.0 in as the IP (or maybe your pcs ip address?) and port 80? it may be 8080 for ICS cant remeber the HTTP port it uses (or your proxy server port)

mRouter will just work as proxy server so setting oen may work.... also try goign though the wiazrd for connecting the pcs via a serial port and use your virtual serial port and play with the IP settings :/

Due tot he lack of pc I cant experiment myself 😞
