I backed up 3650 onto a memory card, put the memory card in 6600 and then restored from backup. Everything was restored except the contact database which is obviously in a new format.

I just re-read your post - this won't help you on a 7650 because of lack of memory card. 😞

You could just copy the c:\system\Mail folder .Search the forum for a detailed procedure.

That does not work because c:\system\mail\index file is always in use and there is no file manager for Series 60 which can copy locked files.

I have copied the folders in system\mail.
The messages are correctly in the 6600 phone, but i
cannon't open....

Do a backup using PC Suite. It will copy all files, including locked ones, into the backup directory and rename them with a serial number. The index mapping filenames to serial numbers is also stored in the backup folder called something like index.dat. Look in the file to find out which file is the mail index file.

That gets you half way - you now have the old mail index file on your PC.

To get it onto the 6600 - you could try backing up that too, and then replacing the mail index file with the one from the 7650 and doing a restore.

I don't know, maybe there is something not quite copied properly. All mine do open correctly. I'm afraid you might have to start again with a clean slate....

Thank you.

a question:
"Browse your 7650 C:\System\Mail and copy all the directory tree in the dir you've just created."
copy with or without files?

thank you

Since you want to save the sender details and the date of your messages, i assume this is for archiving purposes... May i suggest MsgSaver by Jari Laaksonen.. this app saves ALL of your (TEXT) messages into one 'note' in the NOTES app which you can beam to your PC or your 6600 via IR or BT..it includes the message's sender and the date sent..

Or you can skip the NOTES part and beam all your messages directly to your 6600..

Peace out
