Hi All,
I have tried days trying to get PC Suite v2.11 for 9210i to connect to my communicator using IRDA on my Windows XP notebook to no novail.
Have been reading all sorts of reports in various forum and got myself really confused.
Can someone update me with the latest status? Can PC Suite connect to 9210i using IRDA on a Windows XP system.
Like many others, I bought the latest notebook that does not come with a com port. So I am left with the only choice of IR.
Many thanks!
It is possible to connect the Communicator to the Data Suite via IR under Windows XP. However, your Windows XP version should be Service Pack One. You also need to install the JetEye IR drivers that came with the Communicator CD or IRComm2k.
hi sean..
i had some problems on connecting to my pc, my pc wont detect my 9210.. i dont know if this will work on your notebook.. but just try..
reinstall your IRDA
(install your PCsuite 1st then install your IRDA)
Hope it will work..
BTW! I cant connect my 9210 using a data cable! My Pc Cant detect it.. anybody know how to connect my 9210 without using Ir?
My Windows XP Professional is already at Service Pack 1. Have also tried installing the JetEye IR driver, have reinstalled the IRDA driver that comes with XP.
Have also tried the sequence as suggested by "Grifter"
Nothing works!?
Think I might just get a Com/USB converter, but did anyone get it work in this configuration?
REMINDER ON CONFIG:
- Windows XP Pro
- Acer Travelmate 802LCi WITHOUT a Com port
- Nokia 9210i Communicator
- How to get 9210i connect to notebook using IRDA??
To Grifter: when you say "it is possible"... is it your own experience in getting this configuration work?
It is a shame Nokia is not providing much support and info here as I can tell a lot of people having the same problem from various forums.
Sean
All,
Just my opinion:
Think 9210i is really coming to the end of product life since not much people, not even Nokia are interested in solving outstanding issues.....
New communicator better be launched earlier else many people might be forced to switch camps.... and when they do, some will never come back.

you have two problems: a hardware and a software problem
i have the same problem before. most pc's does not have a serial port anymore. so the data cable that comes with the communicator is useless. my pc which is portege R100 does not have iRDA port too. so that complicates the problem.
what to do:
1. you have to buy a usb-to-serial converter to be able to use the data cable. it costs around 20USD. intall the driver that comes with it. restart your computer. after restarting, plug in your converter. your pc will recognize it.
2. download the latest version of pc suite for 9290. uninstall your pc suite v2.11. restart your computer to completely remove all files of the pc suite v2.11. after restarting, install the pc suite for 9290. connect your communicator to your data cable(already connected to the usb-to-serial-converter). restart your computer.
your pc suite should already indicate that a device is connected.
if the pc suite does not indicate that your communicator is already online, NORMALLY IT WILL, here is what you should do:
2.1 go to control panel/open the system folder/click on the hardware tab/click on device manager/click on ports to see if the usb-to-serial converter was recognized and take note which com port it is connected.
2.2 knowing which port your usb-to-serial converter is connected, open your pc suite, go to control panel, double click the connection icon to open the com ports and identify the com port which the converter is connected. there will be an indication that your 9210i is online..your done !!
9210i and 9290 are the best phone/pda i have used so far. the only problem is that communicators are dual band so i need two..
I have also tried for days to connect my 9210 via irDA under XP. The problem details are important I think. I can connect with no problem the following:
Transfer image TO 9210 using irDA and XP file transfer protocol
Transfer images from Concord camera (came with Nokia) via irDA
Transfer TO/FROM Ericsson T610 using irDA with no problem
I have a JetEye PC from extended systems using the serial port.
What does NOT work is the Nokia communciator suite via irDA. I have installe dthe drivers that came with Nokia (even though XP said there were errors) and there is no difference before or after.
Is there is a specific problem with the 9210 or software via irDA? With the cable no problem, but I don't have enough ports to have a seperate cble for each piece of equipment...
