All About... Nokia 6600!

27 replies · 5,120 views · Started 10 December 2003

Hey, I've been browsing this forum the past few days and thought i'd say hello.

Looks like i'm getting a 6600 in a week or two, but what i'd like to ask is for what my network (o2-uk) is offering me at the moment what would you take...

Nokia 6600 - 200 pounds
Nokia 3650 - 50 pounds

Obviously, the 6600 is the better phone but from the price can you tell me whats worth the extra money? and 4 times as much of it! Its naturally my preferred choice but i'm just trying to weigh up if its worth pushing the boat out for. Ive read countless reviews but I thought you owners with the experience would be able to help me out here!

Thanks,
Adam

Ok i'm trying to help u.
First of all is the display on 6600 has 65k colors instead of 4k colors on 3650.
Another think why he price is still so high is that the phone is very very new.
6600 supports Themes ,3650 not.
6600 has a newer version of Symbian OS (6.1) 3650(6.0)
6600 looks better and keypad is awsome compared to 3650.
6600 has more internal memory than 3650.
Hmm there are lo more but have a look of yourself on the specs.
Go compare it virtualy on www.nokia.com
Go for 6600 it's worth the money.Hope i could helped you.
PS:Sorry for bad english

sparxxx

6600 has a newer version of Symbian OS (6.1) 3650(6.0)

This is wrong 😊
6600 got the newer version of Symbian (7.0) not (6.1)
and the 3650 (6.1)

I hope this helped

C ya

Since we are going in details: The 6600 doesn't run Symbian 7.0 but Symbian 7.0s.

Adam,if you are the type to buy Nokia only phones, get the 6600 but if you wan't to get the best for your moneys worth i suggest you check out the Sendo X.

Well i've only ever had nokias, 3210 - 8210 - 8310 - 6100 (sent back because it was so unreliable)

I'll definitely always stick with Nokia though. It seems quite a price jump for just a better picture and a few other minor improvements. But as I hate the 3650's keypad that may push me to the 6600.

SendoX don't like me 😮

the only reasson.. but to me one of the most important...

keeping the spects apart... (BTW! SendoX = OS 6.1.. OS 6600 = 7.0)

THE DESIGN!!!!! (THE LOOKING STYLE) 😃

Nokia always has much better DESIGN ...

Ergonomic, good looking... from this AGE...

Don't look like a Very OLD TV REMOTE CONTROL from the
70's and 80's lol! ... that Aluminium broad case and buttons that freeze your hands lol! really old looking .. same bad idea of the SonyEricsson T610 and others... very ugly old and square design.

And no phone by now win to the EXCELLENT DISPLAY (THE LIGHTEST EVER) of 6600 😃

The reviews of Sendo said that Display is darker than 6600

so.. sorry SendoX... the Mp3 stereo player ability is not the only thing that we spect on a smart phone... go home hehehe! 😉

cya!

😎

The Series 60 version running on the Sendo X is very modified and has loads of extra features like a today screen which the 6600 doesn't have and probably support for skins/themes - the skins support is not confirmed yet and is still a rumour.

The design?Well, thats personal,i preffer the Sendo's metalic design over the 6600's plastic,toylike,blown-up frog design.Didn't i say it was personal. 😮

I've never seen a review that says that the Sendo X has a darker screen.

The stereo mp3 player is not the only feature that the Sendo has and the 6600 does not.I can start with the faster,cheaper,hot-swapable and available in higher capacities SD cards(it supports MMC's too),separate co-processor which boosts the framerate of the video recorder, viewfinder(It is reported that it runs arround 30 FPS) and games(You can expect better video quality and richer games on the Sendo),camera with flash,24 MB of storage available to the user and you will find probably more if you browse the Sendo X forums.I don't know the ammount of RAM on it but i bet its a lot more then on the 6600.

So,if we are talking features,the Sendo is a clear winner.So,sorry 6600,go home,was it? 😃

" ... The Sendo X 65K TFT screen is not brighter than only 4096 STN screen of Nokia 3650. The processor is not pretty fast ... "

" ... the size of keypads is too small, making them not comfortable to press. The five ways controlling trackball is not easy to press too. The phone is shorter, but have similar width with Nokia 3650. We cannot describe it as small, while we still accept it as a smartphone ...

You forgot to mention that threegmobile reviewed prototypes and not final version of the Sendo.

When they said that the processor is not fast they didn't say in comparison to what?Because the 6600 seems more slugish/slower then the 7650.

I find the 6600 joystick worse then the one on the 7650.The keys are OK.

Oh,and to correct my self,i said that the Sendo has 24 MB of storage available to the user, when actually it is 32.The 24 MB are rumoured to be the ammount of RAM.

Even if this is all true, and keys and trackball are not easy to use,IMO the Sendo is a clear winner.

AEFOX - the post you were reffering to is a prototype of the SENDO X- as it says in the page you are reffering to. Kindly do a check when you are giving critical info on buying decision😉 😃 . But the Sendo X has better features compared to N6600. As Ghostdog said it's a better deal, one thing which he has missed is the possibility to install new firmware yourself which is a great Plus.
@ Ghostdog- I think the Sendo X has 32MB available to the user in the Phone memory.

I have a N7650 and i don't really feel the urgency to upgrade to the 6600.😛

Also when speaking about O.S. please don't specify Symbian 7.0 for 6600 as the P800 & P900 runs on it!

machtoners,i was faster 😃

And yes,i forgot about the upgrade your firmware from home option which is a big plus, like you said.

Like machtoners said, the p800/p900/A920 run on Symbian 7.0,the 6600 runs on Symbian 7.0s.

I think Sendo X is better than 6600.
Cause it has many feauters over 6600
I own a 6600 and i love it.I am a Nokia fan cause they are very user friendly.I think Sendo would not be so popular than nokia phones.
And one more think NOKAI 6600 IS ALREADY HERE.
Where is SENDO X 😃 😃 😃
Bye.

Similar to Sendo X Vs N6600 😉 😃 😛 (joke)

I think that SendoX test it's only on a prototype is just like always... excuses... then they say.. yeh yeh. we will fix that and that.. and then launch the phone just like the "prototype" ... same thing happend when 7650 will came... many feactures said that will be fixed at the launch.. but they don't fix anything...

So.. we will see the review of the "FINAL" version of SendoX.. i am sure that will keep just like the opinions about the "prototype" ... they need to launch that phone soon before they lost the market against Nokia.. so.. trust me.. they will not fix anything (Dark screen, Slow cpu, bad keys, etc.)

Just wait for the real review... and let's see...

The N6600 too have problems. They were recalled back, some complained of screen LCD Spots (dead pixels), then there was a video capture problem as published in the Mobileburn review by the author. I'm sure there might still be some software glitches around. But with a Nokia the simple excuse is- there will be a firmware upgrade and it will be sorted.🙄

So why are you troubled when Sendo can do the same after releasing the phone😛 They have to sell their phones against Nokia.😃

Moreover, the firmware of Sendo X can be upgraded at home😎

like i told...

just wait the final version and we will see when the SendoX users will be totally satisfaced with their product.. how long will take that?... 3 months?... when they will launch final?...

5 months?.. for firmware upgrade etc?...

6600 it's here and it's working...

when SendoX just get on the market with good reviews and really happy users... then Nokia will launch another phone 😃

So... Nokia is step ahead...

May be SendoX will be a damn good phone... but when and?...

Rumors... prototypes... etc..

i'll wait almost ONE real user review to say more about that phone... by now...

sorry but i am a Nokia FAN lol! 😃

Speculations.
AEFOX,i really don't remember any promises by Nokia for the 7650,can you remind me?

Sendo can't afford to screw up,Nokia can.About losing market share,i don't think so,Nokia fanboys will always buy Nokia,no matter what 😃

BTW:I still have my trusty 7650,waiting for the p900 😃

lol!..

i was a 7650 user.. 😊 damn good phone 😃

P900 cost about a double... of course that is a SmartPDAPhone... no a SmartPhone only...

P900 is good if you want a PDA and a phone all in one...

But right now at this momment if you want an SmartPhone...
the better chooice is 6600 😃 ... and then will see when SendoX will come in.. and at what price... my 6600 cost me US$460

Enjoy your 7650 😊 ...

i am selling mine yet... i have my 6600 from about a week ago..

i don't understand why the 7650 cost still at $498 in US... 😕

thanks for the replies guys, I think its fair to say everyone usually gets familiar with a brand of phone and sticks to them. In my case, i'm a big supporter of a Nokia but i'm not short sighted enough to think no-one else makes good phones.

does anyone know if I can download a 6600 or Symbian 7 emulator? or just something on my pc where I can have a play with the symbian software that would be on my 6600.

Adam

That is just your opinion AEFOX.IMO the Sendo X is a better choice.

Adam, your are looking for an emlulator that can run native Symbian apps on the PC,similar to the one that is available for Palm OS,right?

Well, sorry, there is not such thing 😃

yeah GhostDog I was just after some app for my PC that would run even just the basic Symbian. Ah well, strange there isn't one I bet its easy to develop!!

What is the 15mb file you can download from Nokia's website then?

You are probably refering to the Emulator from the SDK.That is not of any use to you unless you are a developer. It won't run any of the commercial apps because they are compiled for a different paltform then the one required by the emulator.

Hey,

Cor blimey, this post has gone backwards and forwards over the net a few times! I think it stands at deuce.

From my perspective, the nokia has it at the moment. Yes the tech spec of the Sendo X looks impressive, but is it?
Internal memory is larger, but who cares when the 6600 has MMC.
I went from a 7650 (great fone) to the 6600, lack of memory was the downfall of the 7650. The new screen adds that little extra touch, as does the overal look, although again it's a personal thing.
I looked long and hard at the P900, looks good, big screen, pose ability the lot. But Nokia always have a good user interface. if a function isn't already on the phone, chances are the apps out there to do it.

Everything in life that has a computer has bugs to start with, you only need look at your very own PC to see that.
If you go up to someone in a street and ask "whats a Sendo?" chances are they'll say it was some kind of condo in spain!
Ask them "whats a Nokia?" & it will be answered, that is the hurdle Sendo have to get over and I for one bid them luck.

As for looks.... hmmm sendo still nothing to look at, for me anyway.

My 2 pennies worth. Be Gentle 😞

Ian

I'm just really disapointed that you cant play MP3's in stereo with the 6600. What a joke!

How long is it going to take a phone company to bring a good phone with everything on it?

Features like:- Symbian OS, stereo MP3 player, workable hands-free, FM radio, stereo headset, digital camera, upgradable memory, bluetooth, bluetooth heaset support etc.

I have an Nokia 7650, I love the phone, but it really pi$$es me off that is doesn't support a bluetooth headset, that the memory cannot be upgraded, no FM radio, no memory to be able to play MP3's - no stereo headset, the handsfree is totally useless unless you are in a totally quiet area.

The handfree and bluetooth headset are probably the worst things, at least I knew that the phone didn't support the other mentioned features, but the handsfree should have worked well. I seen a crappy Alcatel phone that had an awesome handsfree.....Very disapointing Nokia. You continue to disapoint!

I just cant fathom, in this day and age how Nokia are conent on building and releasing a phone that has only 75% of the features it should. It seems to me that the other 25% of features, surely wouldn't be hard to implement or costly to implement.

Why does it have to be so hard?

It's easy - marketing. Nokia don't have to release a phone with everything. People will buy Nokia phones no matter what. If they produced a phone with everything then nobody would upgrade!

Other manufacturers on the other hand have to add features to make their phones more attractive - look at it this way - two phones identical in features, one nokia, one sendo/phillips/sagem, which one are you gonna buy? The Nokia every time unless you're a diehard fanatic of the other brand.

So we get phones like the Sx1 and the Sendo X in production. Both great phones, but they needed to hit the shelves at the same time as the 6600. People wanting the latest and greatest have already bought the 6600, and are hardly going to upgrade again in a couple of months to a lesser known brand which offers only slightly more.

I've said it once and I've said it before. Nokia are SMART. They have the technology to release a phone the size of an 8250 with "everything" priced at $300 euros. Why don't they? Simply because there's more money and business sense in remaining one step ahead and making phones with only incremental improvements. So, love em or hate em for being that way, you've gotta respect that they're smart 😊

The 7650 is a dual band phone, so it's not meant for the US market😃 😛
