I don't know if anyone has this phone and is using it with O2, but I've encountered a problem which when I speak to the network, they're clueless about, so I'm hoping that somebody can shed some light.
I've got the right GPRS and MMS settings on my phone (I think!). I can browse the O2 active site, but when I see a link to either download or stream video content I get an error message that comes back, saying:
"Error - Not O2 User
O2's video service is only available to customers of O2... blah blah...."
Obviously, as an O2 customer, this is a rather bizarre message to get! Has anyone been in a similar circumstance ? I called up O2 and they said there was nothing wrong with the phone and tried to get me to call a premium rate phone number to O2 active to talk to someone, which I won't do.
Any help gratefully appreciated.

I also have a Nokia 6600 on o2 and are having pretty much the same problem. I can connect to o2 actives main menu and when I click on downloads the next screen comes up with the options Wallpaper, Video etc. But thats it if I click on video nothing happens it just says 0kb at the top, no percentage or nothing. I phoned o2 at a very expensive 50p per minute and they said that video downloading hasn't been put online yet and will not work.
Problem is the above happens when I try to access anything on o2 active (web-sites, other parts of the menu's).
Also I can't send MMS messages I'm on PAYG and have received the settings from o2 but after about 3-4 hours it says message sending failed. My father in-law who is on o2 with a 6600 has the same problem so does his mate.
Just a little update....
With reference to the previous poster (salanddaz), I can do the MMS thing just fine. I got my settings for that sent to me from Nokias website. They have a bit there that's dedicated to sending the right settings to your mobile - and to be honest, they worked better than the ones O2 sent me (there's a few little IP address changes).
On speaking to them today, it would appear that the video bit is only for those who've got a 7650 or 3650. The chap I spoke to said he'd raised an issue log for the support team to add the phone to the list of capable ones, but I won't hold my breath on that one.
Technically, though. If that's the case, then the product may have been mis-advertised. They should make it very clear that at the moment, you can't actually download video from the network - because that's one of it's clear selling points when you look at the description on O2, Carephonewarehouse et. al.

Yeah from reading the first post I guessed that it was jsut a case of O2 updating there system to recognise a video phone when they see one.
Its funny because a friend of mine with a Nokia 5100 (colour screen) still cannot get colour graphic or polyphonic tomes from Vodaphones services because it thinks she is using an older phone.
One of the reason I like Orange is that even though they havent released the 6600 on their network I can still access all the colour symbian services I received with my 7650 so they obviously have a better more fullproof system...
Mr Dalliard, you will need to create a new access point with the existing o2 GPRS settings and rename the access point to mobile.o2.co.uk instead of wap.o2.co.uk. Then use this new setting to download video. Hopefully it should work but let me know pls if it does.

i've just this minute got off the phone from ordering my 6600 from o2, but they dont have it in stock yet so I have to call back next week 😞

Just given it a go. It brings up a slightly different front page, with the name "XDA Portal" - however, every selection from there brings up a blank page - nothing on it at all.
Thanks though... was worth a go...

Hi,
I've had similar while browsing the 02 site.
I managed to watch the video's, some cat walk model vids and other things to. The problem I had was when I went to view pictures, I got a message like 'no content for your phone'.
My best guess at the moment is because of the different wap version we have in these 6600's compared to the 7650/3650, the network setup doesn't cater for the newer version as yet.
Untill yesterday I still had my 7650 and could view some wap pages on that, which I can't as yet on the 6600.
You can dial in ok, it's just the content that isn't right for us.

Thanks... I should add that I got my settings originally from Nokia anyway - O2 have finally put setting details on their site, but they can't SMS them to you. You've got to manually enter them.... 😕
I should also add that O2's website is now touting this as a working service.
http://www.o2.co.uk/video/0,,187,00.html
Has anybody else had this experience ? Does it work for them ? The responses I'm getting back from O2 (if any) are very non-specific. And meanwhile, I still get the same error messages....
Thanks for any help.

Finally, something I found out that I think anyone considering this phone should think about.
I finally spoke to someone in O2 again about it. It seems that the information on the O2 website is a lie and that it's actually not coming in for about another 3 weeks, until the new version of the O2 active site is getting launched.
So, in short, don't believe what you read!

I ordered my 6600 with o2 last week, they told me it was in stock and would be sent out to me within 10 days. I call back yesterday having not recieved their order confirmation e-mail to find that it is out of stock and they have no date yet, so i'm probably looking at a few weeks.
muppets! considering this was an Xmas gift from my mum you can understand i'm pretty annoyed at them.
Rant over.
I am using the services with o2 pay and go and all ok. I have payandgo.o2.co.uk as an access point. The setting they sent me from their web site are wrong, don't work for me at all. Try this one might work for you. Streaming video ok
i am using o2 200 paymonthly
using either 02 or nokia website, i never receive my settings!
after entereing the manual settings on the website, GSM WAP and GPRS do not work. I get an error message about the settings.
btw i can make all normal calls and send texts.
The solution is simple.
Apparently, the problem occurs when a customer ports their number across from another network. This makes O2's database think that you're not a full customer. (I transferred from Orange - silly me)
To resolve it, all you need to do is this:
text the word "Update" to 80202.
You'll then get a text message back, saying your operator details have been updated....
.... and then everything works!
I can't believe something so simple solved the problem - the guy I spoke to at O2 was really good, but it transpires that he isn't even an O2 employee, but a contractor or something.
Which doesn't say much about O2 itself.
I just can't believe I had to wait 3 months for that.... And it took over 1hr15 minutes of being on hold to various people to get that solution.
Hope this helps anybody else out who was having the same problem.

i'm using a nokia 6600 too, but it all ok with my maxis operator:}
After spending sometime with orange and feeling that thery could do better, I moved to O2. In comparison, orange is head and shoulders above O2. Tech support, customer service, free customer service numbers and so on... O2 take bloody ages to answer calls. Frankly I can't wait till my contract is up. It took them 3 months to send me a bill..
O2 Active - What a waste that was.. It worked ok, didn't have any problems downloading and streaming video.. It took me a few go's to realise that it was all crap. So I dumped it! Now I don't have to put up with it booting up everytime I turn on my phone and occasionally crashing in the process.
Also had the mms problem. Went to the MMS settings and changed the image size from large to small.. No problems after that..
Version 1.0
Seems to work fine for me, I'm using a Pay As You Go Sim.
