Graphics Co-processor

Hello ppl,

I've been wondering whether the N6600 has any seperate graphics apart from the ARM9 chip ( i think the same as N7650). Yesterday I saw some real clips on the 6600, and the video was jerky- indicating lack of video processing power. IMO with smartphones around for some time , there will be more demand for processing power for even the S60 platform. All the new s60 devices to be released has more than 1 processor for computing.

This is the info I have:-

Nokia 7650- ARM9 104Mhz
Nokia 3650- ARM9 104Mhz
Nokia 6600- ARM9 104Mhz
N Gage- ARM9 104Mhz
Siemens SX1- 130MHz Texas Instrument OMAP 310+ ?
Sendo X- 120Mhz ARM 9, ARM 7, DSP and graphics coprocessor
SE P900 - 32-bit RISC ARM9 156 mHz + unkown multimedia processor (though i shouldn't be comparing the P900 with S60 devices😛 )

Any Info on N6600 additional processors?

hi!..

i run 3gp encoded videos on RealOne
176 x 144 160kbits 15 fps video track with audio
without any lagg

Just perfect fluid smooth video ... and 160kbits is not a 3g standard... is less than that... around 80kbits...

So... when you saw RealVideo... may be you saw a low bit rate video.. to be send by MMS may be... but if you see the same video on a PC with Pentium 4 3.6 ghz... with GForceFX 5950 video card... on RealOne... you will see the same "jerky video" 😃

So.. N6600 has the enought cpu speed and hardware to show you the standard formats and much more, so who need co processor by now?.. for what?... even the games..
3D games (Flames, DrivePhantom, etc.) run just perfect on 6600/7650/3650/N-gage... that's why they don't need more CPU (more expensive CPU = more cost) from now to may be a year or more...

The DEMAND for speed it's defined by the STANDARDS .. when the STARDARDS change so the speed will be needed. The Standards by now on S60 (even 3G) are "jerky" 😃

AEFOX,have you seen fullscreen videos on the p900?My guess is you haven't.

I encoded some videos with PvAuthor in order to watch them on my brother's n-gage and i can encode high quality smooth playback videos with up to 200000 bps but no sound. The playback is a little jerky when the video is played in fullscreen but i can live with that. The problem is if you encode the video with sound. You can get full screen, smooth video playback with 60000 bps max.BTW: RealOne doesn't play fullscreen.

Your theory about playing the same video on PC and geting the same results is just not true. The 104 Mhz ARM9 on the 6600/N-gage can't handle videos with high bitrates, vidoes playable on other devices.

Sorry!..

but i think that your problem is the format ...

I am encoding 3gp video format using H.233 codec using QuickTime Pro 6.4 ...

174 x 144 160kbits 15 fps
for video track and Audio track mono...

Smooth playing on RealOne.. no JERKY.. no lagg on 6600...

may be that PvAuthor is not too good... and i saw my videos on PVPLAYER and lagg too (with or without fullscrenn)
.. so.. i don't like PV things...

Or you are using MPEG4 codec for the 3gp ... and i notice that mpeg4 work fine only with lower bit rates around 80kbits for video with audio for the 6600 ... i think that 6600 has a hardware to decode 3gp H.233 format and not Mpeg4... anyway the video quality is the same on both cases... i compared that on the PC.

And what about P900? ... who is talking about PDA here?...

that is not a same price or product (6600 = $460 P900 = $800)
so please compare products of similar prices. P900 = SmartPDAPhone, 6600 = SmartPhone only, the prices say everything.

anyway... i can send you if you want a link of a 3gp video that i enconde for the 6600 , perfect video/audio sync.. 15fps 160kbits... with audio.. so.. no problem... no "jerky"

AEFOX, if you could post a link to a clip of the quality you are talking a bout that would be great. I am interested in making films for my phone but would like to see the results before i pay for QuickTime Pro or other software. Many thanks

AEFOX,once again,RealOne doesn't play fullscreen.Decoding is software, there is no special hardware for decoding video, that is the puropose of this discussion, there should've been but Nokia can get away with it.

I don't think the only issue is the hardware. The PvAuthor guys left options for encoding videos with higher resolutions 176x144 but the Series 60 version of the player doesn't support them while the UIQ version does.I've heard that it doesn't support AAC,AMR only so if the player was a little bit better you would've probably had good full screen playback on the 6600.

GhostDog i know that RealOne doesn't play full screen... i don't said anything about that...

Anyway...

Full Screen for what?

The full screen for this low res video doesn't make any
sense at all to me... anyway i am sure that more apps will come with full screen play option...

But 174 x 144 enlarge to 208 x 176 ... just make more evidence (bigger) of the pixelation and compression... so in order to see it better you need to get far from the display.. so you will see it small again... ... sizes are relative when the resolution is fixed at a low-res.

I would prefer watching clips at full screen- to make the most of the small screen and thus encoding at higher resolution.

I second that.

AEFOX,why would you have to enlarge anything, usualy the source is a hi-res divx movie, not a low quality 3gp video so you would have to downsize it not enlarge it.

Tell me... what is the resolution of the video you will play on the phones?... what is the size of the Video that you are encoding for the phone?

The source can be 1280 x 720 or 960 ... so what? ..

when you enconde to a 176 x 144 the source is now 176 x 144 ..
when you ENLARGE a 176 x 144 to 208 x 176 or 320 x 240 or any higher resolution to see it "full screen" the video will see it damn bad... Because the original size is 176 x 144... did you understand that? ...

AEFOX, why do you say downsizing a video to 174X 144 and then enlarge at 208X176? when you can downsize directly to 208X176. so in the process not loosing quality and "pixelation".

As Ghostdog said in the earlier post- The PvAuthor guys left options for encoding videos with higher resolutions 176x144
