This thread included a poll: Would you use a PC Photo Frame like this?

PROGRAM COMING SOON

You take a photo on your phone

Send via the phone's standard Send > via Bluetooth (IR version will come later) option the file is sent to PC

The PC immediately then displays it on screen

Images rotates either random or in sequence

 Ability to play BackGround Music!

Be able to accept photos without having to touch the PC (i.e. No Accept buttons)

Skinnable BackGround (If not Full Screen) to have ability to change from plain black (for example to look like a Wooden Frame around image)

 Screensaver Feature

a Gadget2k production 😃

OK I have some great news.

Gadget2K (OK J2k) Productions has been working hard over the weekend and we now have a Beta of a program we are calling BluePhoneFrame (BLUEtooth cameraPHONE FRAME).

Please note this is a Beta and should be treated a such. Usual disclaimers apply in regards to Beta software, and as such neither myself, J2K, AAS or anyone else can be held responsible for any problems caused by this software.

What this program should do when loaded is display a photo when it's running for approx 15secs that is sent via Bluetooth, with no PC intervention required. (Only displays Full-Screen at this moment in time)

Please post feedback on how program worked/didn't and any suggestions for future releases.

Beta Moved To PhoneFrame Home Page!

Just one quick note to add - this product is only compatible with bluetooth adapters using the Widcomm stack, and does not currently work with alternatives such as the Blue Manager.

Thanks for your report Rafe. Could you please tell me the manufacturer of your bluetooth adapter? Also is it USB or PCMCIA?

I presume it uses Widcomm?

Cheers

Correction - worked after a reboot.

It built into the laptop. Uses widicom.

Also works on desktop - usb tdk adapter.

Rafe

p.s. on some images fikt to screen looks a bit strange. Maybe an option not to strech the image?

Yup, that was a limitation of Beta 1 and has been overcome in Beta 2.

Glad you got it working 😊

Cheers

Its really interesting to see this program because what it is doing is great and the potential of the app in the future - I doubt many will live without it but I dont see the initial need for it to most users.

I however have used many strange programs which I am surprised to exist but have saved me much time so therefore imagine there is a market.

For example I can imagine it will be useful for presentations - I mean you could even send slides to the screen from your phone - no need for big electronic projectors and powerpoint to hand!

Also gonna be very useful for when Media centre PC's come along and people are generally putting the Pc's in the living room.

But to get the most out of it - I would certainly need to some more options later on - being able to use it as screesaver and saving the list of images you send it - so over time you get a backcatalog of images and then being able to do other things with them later on....

But overall its a great little program - so nice to be able to run something without all the longwinded extra files being added and it works - very simple - love it.

I have a USB Bluetooth adapter using Widicom on a WINXP Pro machine.

Thanks

Thanks for your comments and ideas - all have been noted and suggestions will be implemented accordingly!

Bad news - my Bluetooth adapter broke this morning! The light on it won't illuminate and the PC won't recognise its existence.

Therefore I'm still programming features which don't require a bluetooth connection (such as the ability to add music, set as screensaver, randomise pictures etc), but I can't test the features so some aspects may not work.

I'm hoping to get a new BT adapter on Friday.

Cheers

Anyone have any comments, feature ideas or still to vote. Then make sure you have you say on this Program! 😃

If you have tested this and it works for you, please post (or PM me) with your system set-up, so I can post on the PhoneFrame Home Page.

Ops, I nearly forgot, the PhoneFrame home page is at:-
http://www.symbiandiaries.com/phoneframe/

I've just tried it and works great.

I don't know if this has been mentioned but if you send more then one image to PC it only displays the first one.Is this a limitation of beta one?

All looks good for a Christmas/New Year Beta 2. I won't release it until I have tried it on my brand new 6600 though 😃

Roll on Dec 25th...

Oh, and Gadget - what's with the new topic name? What happened to my other BRILLIANT suggestions? 😛

hehehe

It's not like they were scandalous, libellous and totally unrelated to the application though, was it? 😮

Was not Scandalous, or libellous, saying thread should be called "GADGET17 NAKED, it's just plain Scary! (*Me Shudders*) 😃

Ewww. I told you 'Ewan Exposed' or 'See how Rafe compares to Harry Potter Here' would have been better.

So I assume you aren't opening yet. Aren't you Tempted to open it?

Have you Wrapped it? Is it under the Tree?

Lastly:- Damn my debts, I wish i could upgrade! 😞

lol, nah... It's very tempting to open it though, especially when I look at it just sitting there in its O2 Shop bag...

But I'll be a good boy and wait until Santa comes. 😃

*puts on-topic hat back on*

Also I'd like to receive feedback on whether or not to provide a demo which is either:

  • Fully functional but time limited whereby the application works fully but for a set period of time, and then expires, forcing the customer to pay for the application to continue using it.
  • Feature limited but never expires so the user can use the application for as long as he/she wants, but not all features will be active until they register the application.

Any suggestions?

Cheers

The last option is much better since youll definitely get a bigger user base rather than shoving users out after a certain period of time. My experience is that a time limitation will lead to that people rather turn to cracks than to use the app and see their need for it.

Thanks for that. I'm inclined to agree with you, so I think that's what I'll do - unless anyone else has any different ideas?
