Ello everyone!

Just got myself a new P900 (Orange Cantract) and have been browsing through these fine forums looking for ways to butcher....ahem....modify my phone.

I've got a few questions which I cant seem to find answers for, if anyone can help I'd be very gratefull.

First off, A minor bug that is really annoying. When I try to write a text message (SMS or MMS), i go into the write message window, and when I click the contacts icon, it flips to what should be a list of contacts, but nothing appears in the window.
However when i go into the main contacts window, i see a full list of 70 odd contacts. I have tried moving contacts around to the sim and other places without any joy 😞

Another one. Is there any way for the phone to use my pc's internet connection? On my old A920, all i had to do was syncronise the phone and PC, set the phone to Airoplane mode, then access the browser, it automatically saw my computers connection and used that. I could then set the phone back to handset mode and still use the net conenction without GPRS.

About GPRS. Am I charged per the minute for GPRS internet? or is it just per megabyte downloaded? And does that include web pages, i.e if you go into the GPRS log, it tells you the sent and recieved data, or is it just raw downloaded files.

I think that's about it, i'm sure i'll have more questions as time goes on. All in all I am extremely happy with this phone, it is 1000% + better than the Motorola A920 that I had on 3 just before this.

Cheers

Edit: Another one i just thought of.
Flash/Java games. On my A920, i downloaded some Flash games. To play them, all i had to do was upload them to the d: drive (memory stick) of the phone, then in the web browser, i could bookmark a local page d://flashgames.fg1.html or whatever it was.
Can I do that on this phone? i've given it a go and all I got was an error saying the html and swf files could not be uploaded to this location.

Hello, and welcome!

1. Contacts "bug"
Dunno. Never seen that happen.
Try creating a new contact from scratch on the handset, can you see that one?

2. With the P800 you used to be able to use your Broadband connection over a Bluetooth link. Not tried with the P9, but it should be possible. Do a search, because I'm sure I got the answer from the P800 forum here.

3. GPRS is charged by the Mb only, no charge for just being connected and not doing anything. The charge is for all data to and from your handset, so HTML pages will count as well as downloads.

4. I haven't tried viewing SWF files. If you have trouble transferring the files try putting them in a different directory (the Media Files directories will only accept certain content, but each one accepts different file types). Start with Documents\Unfiled.
Even if you get the files to the phone they may just not do anything - I don't remember the P9 having Flash support... but I don't remember it NOT having Flash support either...

Enjoy your phone!

Cheers bud.

I got around the contacts 'bug' by taking my phone into the shop and having the address book from my old phone transfered to the new sim.

GPRS, better cool down on the browsing then. I've set up an msn client and been chatting to mates today, best stop that for a start, untill I can suss out the connection sharing. I'll have a search around. hopefully someone can help me out in here though?

Cheers for the answers. I am really enjoying this phone now, and i'm very impressed with it's 3d capabilities, the demo of vrally is amazing, the guys in the shop were saying it knocks the ngage off it's feet on the gaming side, but i didn't believe them untill today.

Okay, I got the internet connection sharing done.

This came from Raven a while back.

Go Here , scroll down untill you find your phone, follow the instructions to install the browser.

connect your P900 via BT IRDA or USB, whichever one you use. Run reqwireless browser. It should automatically use your pc's internet connection. You dont need to change any settings on your pc.

This also works for messenger clients 😊

Anyone know any free browsers or MSN clients?

I use the Opera browser (should be on your Applications CD that came with the phone)

I haven't replaced it yet, but I used to use 12Planet.com (I think they are called InstantSymbian now, or the software is, or something is...). Good Messenger client, but I never tried the competition so I don't know if there's a better one now.

Messenger doesn't use much GPRS to keep connected. I tried to track how much data it sent/received per day without any messages, and then repeated with a fixed number of messages etc.... It's very complicated to work out, but you can always just keep eye on "GPRS Data Log" to see how much data you've sent.

Hmm, I wrote about the connection sharing thing a year ago, and at that time the Opera browser wasn't available. Opera will also accept your PC's internet connection through mRouter (PC-Suite). I'd suggest using Opera. It's a much much better browser than the one from Reqwireless! 😊

Thx Raven, Opera works a treat. It even shows the pages to a reasonable scale so i dont have to scroll all around the place looking for links.

Cheers bud.

Anyone know any free MSN clients for the P900? i cant seem to get jmsn working.
