My P800 has been lost 2 weeks ago, now i've got a brand new P900. But when i tried to play back the P800-backup (.ecs-file)on to the new P900, this wasn't possible. How can i get my old Jotter-Files and SMS back on my P900? How can they be extracted from the .ecs-file and brought back into the file-structure of the P900?
Please, need help, and if possible, a good, how-to-description.
Thanx in andvance

do some searching in this forum, and u'll find a lot mentioned about this issue.
as a brief:
u can't restore a P800 backup file onto a P900
u can open the .ecs file by changing it's extention into .zip and open it with Winzip (make another copy of the file before u open it as winzip changes it's attribute and format)
u can find all your contacts, sms, calander, settings in that file, but u have to do some manual searching, renaming, and copying!
hope that's help😉
but how?
if i open the .ecs-file, everything i get is a bunch of .dat-files...
need help!!!
so u'r gona do it the hard way 🙄
sure all the files are .dat as they are renamed and numbered to eas up the restore process, but they are not compressed, so if u check in that folder, u'll find a file called filestore.dat.txt open that in notepad, and start searching for ur files, when u find the correct file, just link the number to it's original name, and rename it urself.
some system files can't b copied while the phone is ON, and sure can't b copied either when it's OFF, so u'll have to use the in between process!
to do so:
connect ur phone to the cradle, start the backup program (as u r doing a new backup) when it starts, restarts ur phone, and reconnect it to process the backup, just press CANCEL, and the phone will b all urs to copy everything, just open the FILE MANAGER (from Epocware)😉
sounds really the hard way, but thanx, ill try this 😊)

i am trying to move my SMS from P800 to P900 too! I have backed up the files from P800 with .ecs file. I followed the way you said by changing the .ecs to .zip and open it. However, I couldn't find the .dat files as sinus said. In fact, what I can see is that all the file structure in .ecs are almost identical to the one on the phone itself. can you explain more?? Thanks!
(I know this is an old threat but I just got my P900 early this month...hehe...)
