Opera problem with pictures

7 replies · 3,000 views · Started 15 December 2003

I made a small www site with some small pics, specially designed for my the Nokia 6600 Screen.

At first the site downloaded perfectly and I could see all the pictures. That lasted a week or so, but then suddenly it all changed.

Now, when I load the site, the pictures do not come up - just place holders. I can get the pics one by one by followwing the following procedure: Options, Display, Select Images, ok, options, load image....

But then I only get the images one by one, and every time I look at a new image, the old one on the same page can no longer be seen.

If I look at the internet site using a normal browser, everything is working perfectly.

My Image Settings are as follows:
Show Images: Yes
Show animations: Yes
Enable Javascript: On
Pop up windows: Off
Cache Size 1024
Accept Cookies: Yes
Enable proxy: off
HTTP proxy host: none
HTTP proxy port: 0
Display Settings:
Full screen : off
Small screen; on

I have tried changing all of the parameters, but nothing works.

I have tried everything, short of re-installing Opera.

As an example try the following page on your browser on a pc and then on the Symbian Nokia 6600:

All pictures disappear in Opera for Nokia 6600

Platform: Nokia

Users have reported that all pictures may disappear when using Opera for Nokia 6600. The reason for this problem is a corrupt cache folder. To solve this, please follow these instructions:

* Use a program such as File Explorer
* Locate the folder: e:\system\data\opera
* Rename the folder to something else, such as "opera1"
* Create a new folder called "opera" in the same directory
* Copy the files in "opera1" to "opera", but do not include the "cache4" folder

The next time you start Opera it will create a new "cache4" folder in the new "opera" directory and the problem should be fixed.

QUESTION: where the dickens do I find file explorer? Should it be on my phone. I can only find find file manager which does not seem to find the cache4 file.

You gave me the following message, with the link. I re-istalled opera from the link and it works again and I have picture. But I have lost the original home page and all my bookmarks.

You can download the new build from here:

All,

This thread has been quiet for a while, but the problem is still there. What we have been able to figure out is that a write operation is not completed and that corrupts the folder. But neither Opera nor Nokia has been able to find out what triggers it and whether it is Opera's fault or a weakness in the file system / MMC. We know it only occurs on the 6600 (and no other Symbian device).

As we have not yet been able to solve the problem, the current solution is a workaround. We have found a way to detect when the folder is corrupt. Opera will now check this on startup and if corrupt, the "cache4" folder will be renamed to "cache4_1" and a new one created. If the problem happens again, it's renamed to "cache4_2" and so on. Of course it would be better to simply delete the folder, but this seems to be impossible because it is corrupt.

We would greatly appreciate if those of you who have had this problem could help test the new build. If you alread have renamed the corrupt folder, please change the name back to "cache4" and install the build below. Then run Opera and see if it solves the problem as described above. Restart the browser several times and verify that only one new folder is created.

You can download the new build from here:

Please give your feedback on this forum as fast as possible. We really want to get this new build out in production before the holidays.

Sounds like you installed to a different drive than before. When bundled with the 6600 Opera is bundled with the MMC. Did you install this new version to internal disk?
