How do I save an attachment from an email to Internal or External storage?
The only way I've found is to go thru c:\system\mail... etc and copy the file with FileMan
I've done a search, but I can't find any answers. I can't believe I'm the only one stuck with this.
What kind of attachments are you talking about? You just click the attachment, no..?
Yeah, that's OK if I want to open it, but I often send myself copies of SIS files, so I can quickly re-install if my phone dies or what have you.
It would also be useful for opening TIFFs in different applications (not the built-in viewer). At the moment I open the email, open the attachment in Viewer, save the attachment, Open the other viewer, browse to the file I just saved and open it... a bit long winded.
Oh, I see. Well, the Messages application store the mail internally be default, and there's no way to configure it otherwise.
I think you're pretty much stuck with the way it is..
Oh, sorry, I obviously wasn't very clear...
I don't mind where the system stores the attachment to the email, but I want to be able to copy/move/save (whichever) the attachment to a location of my choice.
Like in Outlook where you have the "save attachment" option on the File menu.
Do you see what I mean?
Ok, been playing around with this a bit now. When it comes to small document files etc., there shouldn't really be a problem, right? You just open it in the Viewer, choose 'Save', and select a folder either internally or on the Duo (by default there's only the 'Unfiled' folders, but you can add others). But it would be nice though, if you could just save the file somewhere without having to open it first...
I see what you mean about SIS files, because you will always be prompted to install or not. I tried making some kind of sense out of the storage locations in c:\system\Mail... I could find my e-mail/MMS attachments eventually, after going through folder after folder, but I didn't notice any logic in exactly where each attachment gets stored... I mean, if the last e-mail you receive would get stored in a map on top (or bottom) of the list, you wouldn't really have a problem, but there seems to be no such structure..
I guess all we can hope for is for a 3'rd party to develop a better e-mail client, or for SE to improve the current one (fat chance). Shame about the basicness of the default client really... No option to "leave mail on server or not", no option to "select as read", no HTML, etc...
I was thinking about writing a simple VB app to scan the Mail\... folders and list any files, and then let you save them elsewhere.
I've not done any apps with AppForge, and frankly I dont have the time at the moment.
I'll see if I can find a developer that is prepared to write it.
