Improvements for P900?

I have been a a palm pda and a nokia phone user before and now I have shifted to a P900. The phone is great, but is there a frimware that I can get for the following features? ( or are these features built-in already that I am too dumb to figure it out?) In any case can somebody help me out? Thanks a lot.

1. During flip closed, when Creating sms, it is very difficult to search for names. The search procedure only allows you to enter the 1st character of the name. My problem is I have a very large phonebook. So it is very difficult to scroll in a hurry.

2. The T9 dictionary is good. but can you use this while scribbing on the screen? It would be great if you can have predictive text input while scribbling.

3. The search procedure when looking for names in the contacts folder only searches for the first character matches. Meaning if your are searching for the name "John", and the actual directory entry is "Michael John", the search can not find this entry. Is there a way to search the directory for all possible matches in the entire name field?

1. Cant help you here. Its a pain i totaly agree with you.

2. There a program called eZiTap
Its a keyboard in flipopen mode that has predictive text.

3. To get the px00 to search any word in an field click the "in all fields" option.
Then if you have
Name: Micheal John
Surname: Frank
and search for john it will find it.

4. Not much in the way of profiles. sadly.
Ring tones can be done per person in contacts. And if you want diff sms tones you can get a program called S&W SMSTones+

1.) I suggest you look for the name first then click on the option to send sms to send to that person. This way you can utilize the complete name search.

Just a thought: I find it odd though that you can do a complete name search in the contacts folder but not in the creating sms area. The SonyEricsson people can simply utilize the same procedure used in searching names in the contacts folder and add an additional procedure call in the create sms area. I wonder why they did't do this?

Tried the "find in all fileds" . It works pretty well in flip open mode. But how about in flip closed mode? Is there a way to do this?

I could be wrong, but here goes:

Assuming that the settings for each profile are stored in some registry key somewhere, could an application be written so that we can define any number of profiles with individual seetings. When a profile is selected, the relevant keys are updated in the registry.

Is something like this possible?

Back on the topic of finding names, I used to use a Nokia 7650, and the ability to search for names by entering one alphabet after another is certainly FAR better that SE's way of alowing us to search only one alpha at a time. I have over 30 names under the alpha C, and it is a bloody pain to have to scroll diown to someone who is somewhere near the centre of the C list.

Yes, I could add a period before that person's name to bring that person to the top of my list, but that would just mess up my contacts database which is also shared by my iPAQ and Outlook

The new version of Quick Contact works great for searching for contacts in flip closed mode...it has many more features in flip open that I am playing with at the moment including adding a field for SMS messaging...

I would like it, however, to be able to SMS in flip closed and have group ability for multiple SMS...

hi i have a p900 and i really love it. i love music but dont get me wrong i like the mp3 playing feature of the phone but i was wondering if there is any kind of software for my p900 that could make my phone work as a radio as well?

I really dont know and it is a pain in azz.. VITO contact is working on something for us though even the ablility to create SMS groups would be awesome! Go Vito we are waiting! 😊

While in Flip open mode, the best "workaround" I can think of it pur your contacts in folders or categories... when searching for the name you can minimize your view to a particular group to make your search quicker eg: Eric So my office mate would be in the �fficemates folders or categories and you would not need to search on the entire "S" List..

Basically for ease of writing text messages...don't need too much screen for the text viewing, but the larger size of keypad would mean less errors keying in the text...

There is a lot more potential in FC mode then just for typing SMS one handed.FC mode applications and games for instance so a bigger screen would be a plus.Its a shame that FC mode is not really documented in the SDK so many developers don't use it.
