how come incoming text messages don't show who they are from, they show up in the international format e.g. +447971307200 instead of the name...?

i tried changing a contact from 07xxx to +447xxx but that didn't make any difference...

it's quite annoying, has anyone experienced this....?

Can happen if you have the same contact name in your sim's memory and phone's memory. Try deleting the sim's contact and i think it will work. Or maybe it's the same phone number on the sim and phone, don't remember

i have no entries on my SIM... my brother also got a Nokia 6600 off orange and it does the same to him... strange... actually it's just annoying!! i no lomger remember peoples numbers, so can't keep track of who's sending me texts...

I have the same problem with an Orange Nokia 6600.

Have made sure that there are only entries on phone memory.

Some texts have the number and some have the name.

Had the same with calls as well but another SIM update fixed that. Doesn't work the same for texts though 😞

Would like to know if there is a fix.

Probably an upgrade !!!

If there are two names in your phonebook (book or sim) with the same last 10 digits the phone will not know which one to do and defaults to the number.

Check your contacts you may have the same number twice or even twice in the same card 😊

😞 😞 😞

i deleted all the the contacts from my phone, put only one entry on sim memory... no joy

did the same, just one entry on phone memory... still joy...

put all my numbers back on, still the same problem...

does anyone think, SIM updates (from orange) could have an affect on this...? should i ask them to resend them...?

Have had loads of updates from Oange to turn off the caller ID and then put it back on again. Still hasn't fixed the problem.

Am going to try having one number for one contact on SIM since all current ones are on phone memory.

See if that makes any difference. Don't think it will.

The problem is almost certainly that you have a contact with his phone number in twice, Maybe you have two names for the same person - e.g. John Office and John Home and have inadvertently entered the same number twice. Or perhaps you have two contacts with the same last six digits. Or maybe you have one contact, but you entered his phone number twice, e.g. once for business and again for home.

i could see how that might happen for the odd contact... but i assure you i have NO duplicate entries...

the same happens for any text received of anyone in my phone book...

I had this exact same problem on my 8310, 50 contacts - no duplicates, but 2 people's numbers simply refused to show the name in either SMS or when they call me. In either +44 format or 07..

This happened whether they were saved to the sim card or the phone. The most confusing thing was that I transferred to 8210 and the same thing happened with the same numbers, i'm guessing when my 6600 arrives the same two contacts will remain as trouble.

Delete all the contacts in you book, especailly the problem number. Have them call you. Does it show their name or someone elses name?

Now put the number back in - once only! and have them call you again.

I f that does not help I can't!

Hi,

I also have a Nokia 6600 on Orange, & found I also had the same problem as everyone else.

The way I got round it was to change the number in my Contact Directory. i.e. if the number I have in was e.g. 07973xxxxxx then change the number to +447973xxxxxx

That seemed to cure the problem.

Hope that helps.

Cheers MarkT.

i have had to change all my numbers to +4479xxx

what a pain in the arse!!

Orange rang me up and said a lot of customers have reported that problem... and they might going back to Nokia about it...

Tried the +44 thing and it works great.

Now I'm glad I bought a bluetooth USB adapter.

I can change all the numbers in Outlook first then send them back.

Much quicker !!!

Just use the supplied PC Suite software and a bluetooth USB adapter to communicate with the phone.

The software does the synchronisation for you.
