i think every step of the way my dilemma has been the same one up until the end. i only have "backup devide mem., memory card name and memory details" in my options section but i dont think my card is locked? I did just install windows XP on my computer from an upgrade from 98 though, could that be a problem? also i dont understand all of the MMC and SD talk, what does that mean?

I've got exactly the same problem, have you got a game or a memory card inserted in your n-gage??
a MMC card is a memory card that can be used in the n-gage (a game is a MMC)
a SD card is a totally different card, this won't work.
An SD card (Secure Digital) card is a slightly different kind of memory card than an MMC card (Multi Media Card).
A device with support for SD cards can also read/write MMC's.
A device with support for MMC's can only read/write MMC's (SD cards are a bit thicker and have a couple of additional leads).
Nokia uses exclusively MMC cards and MMC card readers in phones.
N-Gage game MMC's are MMC ROM (Read Only Memory) variants. They are still "memory cards" even if you can't write to them, or even if they won't work on other phones (which is due to what's been written on them, and not the type - MMC - that they are).
