You could use Psilocs ScreenSaver or Powerlock. But only as screen savers not wallpaper. :frown:

Psiloc Screen Saver is very good application but will drain your battery.

Psilocs Screen Saver can also use animated GIFs as Screen saver and if skreen saver can do that as well, does that mean skreen saver can optimize the use of your battery better compared to Psilocs Screen Saver? (thats a bit out of context comparison.)
wallpaper changer and I think smartprofiles 2 can change your background into an animation ...
As standard the current S60 handsets store the wallpaper in an *.mbm file, this contains a number of bitmaps, this inturn cannot hold an animated image. You can however set an animated *.gif as a background and only use the first frame of the animation.
So it looks as everyone above has said, only via 3rd party software.
Anyone try'd setting a animated *.gif as a start-up image?
