Installing and running AvantGo

Hi

Has anyone had any success installing and running Avantgo? I got it on my phone but I can't sync it with their servers. Whenever it tries to just can't connect. I was hoping it would do this through the IrDa port but it seems to want to do it through my mobile internet setttings. Does anyone know a way to sync with a bluetooth mac or IrDa as syncing it through Vodaphone is a none starter given how much it's going to cost each time with my download limit.

Cheers

Hi. I can't manage this either. It won't even connect through GPRS - just says I should speak to my system administrator to sort out my channels. I'm flummoxed!

Anyone?

Here's what I did to get it working on my 6600. This is from memory, so
Your Mileage May Vary...

- First off, establish an account. I had an ancient account from my
old Palm days that I haven't sync'ed since I had an office up on
the 3rd floor.

- With that, you go and set up "channels". I still had my old channel
selection, so I didn't have to do that.

- Install the software
- go to to Support link at the bottom of the account home page
- click on the 'here' in "Downloads".
- In the "WINDOWS" section, click "click here to download"
- selection the Symbian OS (Series 60) radio button and hit continue.
- Hit continue again.
- Click "Click Here to Download" at item 2.
- install the sis on your 6600. Ignore your 6600 for a bit.
- Click "Continue>" button.
- put in an arbitrary number in the Enter code Number box. In
my experience so far, the number has not been used. I just
made up a 9-digit string.
- Click "Continue>" button.
- This takes you to the "SYNCHRONIZE... AND YOUR DONE" page.
Ignore what it says about "yellow sync now" button.

- fire up avantgo on your 6600 - you'll get some lame-assed text
screen about not being set up and contacting your sysadmn. Ignore it.
There are items under the soft-keys that you cannot see. Right soft-key
is cancel/back. Left soft-key is Options.
- click the 'left soft key' to bring up menus.
- I can't remember exactly how I got there, but you want to get into
the list of servers. I think it is:
- left soft key for Options menu
- joystick down to Tools
- joystick to right to select
- joystick down to server options in new menu
- joystick click to select
(this is what it is now)
- select the sync.avantgo.com server,
- hit left soft key and select edit.
- In the server editing menu, go down to username field. My had
anon<number> where number was some number that did not map
into anything I knew. Replace this with your avantgo username.
- go to password and change it to your avantgo
- click right-soft-key for "Done"
- click left-soft-key for "OK" to the "Save settings" dialog.
- work your way to the top of avantgo (right-soft-key presses).
- click left-soft-key to get the Options menu again (the soft-key
labels are hidden by Avantgo to maximize text space on screen).
- Go to Tools again, joystick right.
- Go to Modem Sync and click select. Make sure you are already
connected to GPRS (for me, at least).

After several minutes it was all sync'ed up. I think it's storing
in Phone Memory rather than the MMC, so you want to watch the size
of your channels.

NOTE: when traversing the Avantgo pages themselves, when you get to
"OK", "Cancel" buttons on the page (i.e., not soft-key items), they do
not seem to do anything. I ran into this in the channel editing page.

Cheers,
