slowness

Hi.

My new 6600 phone is really ace, but after seeing what other people are doing, it is leaving me to beleive my phone is slower than normal.

Firstly, video files that i send often jerk (both video and audio). This is with both those i download, and my own using nokia media convertor.

Also, the phone can be slow accessing basic menus, especially when first booted up, the menu like crashes if u open it with 10 seconds, and u have to press red then taskswitch and close with c.

THe phone sometimes reboots, usually if i am sending it a large file and cancel.

Finaly, i have the GoBoy gameboy emulator. When running this, the roms have a low frame rate with matching sound. I have the old super mario 1 game, this runs fine, but if there is a lot of activity on screen, it really slows down. Zelda Links Awakening DX is just playable, and GTA2 runs but is so slow its not playable.
Seeing as these are commonly available for the phone, im surprised they would be so slow, or is it just me?

If everybody's 6600 is like this, then fair enough it is a lot to ask of a phone anyway, but if not, then could something be wrong with mine? I have the 32mb memory that came with it, and both that and internal have about 50% free space.

Lastly, if this is relevant, the backlight randomly lights up for no apparent reason when the phone is idle. No message is received or other information such as flat battery, its just a random thing! Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks alot in advanced to whoever replies

Dale

most likely ur fone is a defective one......
go and ask for an excahnge immediately.

yes 6600 is slow but not to that extent which u have mentioned...... in mine the videos runs smoothly.....and no such probs like the back light comin up on its own....... but ya in mine everything is in mmc....... so the phone memo is practically empty but i dont think this should make a difference....

i would suggest demand an excahge

best of luck
cheers

This is probably caused by the phone doing a LAC update to the GSM network, and is quite normal. I see this happen on my phone at night.

hmmm i didn't think it would be so serious. i half expected people saying to reformat etc.

i got my phone last saturday on o2 pay monthyl from phones4u.
its also got insurance.

anybody had any experiance with returning stuff to them?

are you sure its that drastic?

after doing more research, it seems with regards jerking videos, the ones that are longer jerk. for example, a 10second one that was on the phone is smooth, but then 3:30 music videos and trailers jerk.

all videos sound jerks if u change the volume

is there possibly a better and more efficient video player possibly freeware 😊
i dont know but if the phones os works like a pc it will load the file through its own ram and dispose and load more info as u play through the video if perhaps the video is bigger than the phones operating ram it could be a problem with the way it prefetches the video from your mmc as i said there may be better more efficient players around im not sure just new here

Agreed.

As for the other oddities you mention, I would say none of them are really bad...At the end of the day it's a phone. And when you start asking it to do other things, I think you will get some occasionally weird things happening.
The phone is still very new remember..

There's no harm in doing a reformat.

I have changed my phone once, but that was because the Picture-Messaging stopped working. It would hang while accessing GPRS.

If the phone does all the 'phone' things you expect it to do, then you haven't really got any remit to change it anyway. Goboy is a third party app, and I'm sure O2 aint that bothered about that 😉

I wouldn't worry about it.

From my experience of the phone the only thing that slows it down is accessing the menu after you have first switched it on I am guessing as it hsa to load up the program icons from the MMC for the first time.... but I have never used the nokia 32Mb card so maybe try using a different card - you might have a defective card!

Yeah, I get that too. I have a 256mb card in mine, and it is also quite slow if you go into app manager, as it reads the mmc again.
I also use my mmc for sms etc, so I think that slows it down.
I haven't tried n-gage games on it. I just use the C64 emulator, and a few games (takes me back 😉)
