how do you free up phone memory?
at present i have less than 50% available phone memory - i have apps installed onto mmc, minimal contacts and calender data and no sound or video data why is it so low, and how do i free up more??

What about pictures or messages?BTW:There are applications that even if installed on MMC save some small ammount of data in phone memory.

That's nothing to be worried about.Think that the OS is running under the phone and some critical files are best to be stored in it's memory rather than in the MMC.

If you want to free some memory you can either delete some stuff or try some of the compressors out there:

Stacker or SpaceDoubler.

are you reffering to messages and pics there? I have 56MB combined in those two things(6MBmessages and 50MB in gallery).. I think that would make me worry if I were to keep it in the phone mem! don't you think? 😃
Then again, perhaps I misunderstood what you meant there? 😊

Then the only solution you've got is to buy a bigger MMC and keep both gallery and messages stored in it.

BTW.... (WTF do you have in gallery?) 56MB!!!!

with regards to Stacker and Space doubler on the 6600,

Should they be instaled on the phone or MMC? and also from its point of install can it compress both the phone and MMC installed apps?

Thanks

Hehhe.. I do have them all in the memory card wich is 128MB so 56MB is not even the half... I have over 3000 messages(6MB bcz of some mms) and tons of pics..

the thing was: I thought you meant that it is no problem to keep both messages and pics in the phone-mem.. that's why I gave you my example.. 😉 56MB on 6MB chip? that would be a bit problematic, even with both space doubler and Stacker working their nutts of! 😃😃 hehhhe

anyways... it was meant to be funny.. 😉

I think both Stacker and sDoubler can be installed either in phone memory or MMC and they do compress on the fly.

would they affect performance quite badly of apps with haveing to decompress them ?, in other words does it take long to open and close an app (decompress then compress) ?

i dont have many apps at all, all my photos are stored on mmc, no messages saved and only minimal contact info. I was wondering why the remaining free phone memory is so small - i take it from earlier replies that this is normal and not a problem

Thanks Ghost DOG.
I looked at stacker website and it says 6600 as a compatible device. But, when installing it says may not be compatible with device. do you wish to continue? I press yes, and the instalation aborts. I have emailed the company, but not heard back yet. Will keep you posted

I have tried Stacker on 7650,long time ago and it was,of couse, dependant on the size of the prog you were trying to compress/decompress.. But,it was always just a matter of seconds.. This is no proven fact, but I think about 10 seconds for a file of 600Kb.. (as far as I can remember) And,IMO, on that kind of phone, where the mem amount is low, benefits of the space available beats the extra time in usage..

I never got the stacker to work on my 3650,and haven't tried it yet on the current 6600... On 6600,where memory available has been no issue so far,I don't see a reason to install it.. perhaps I will when I run out of space.. 😊
