Bluetooth and Nokia Suite

Before a certain someone states this, I have searched and it didn't come up with anything 🙄

I have just bought a Belkin Bluetooth Dongle which paires with my PC fine, but will not connect to the data suite. I have seen the other articles stating that it may be my firewall, I disabled that but to no effect.......

I have enable all the serial ports that I can find ont he PC, but that oesn't even work either, has anyone had the same problem and managed to fix it?

Please help! 😕

if it makes you feel any better my zaapa bluetooth also wont connect to the pc suite for nokia / nokia connection manager crap.. "media type is not supported. check your system for media settings." he says.

but.. (and there is a nice one this time) after the usb bluetooth _cd drivers_ were installed i can now send any file to phone from pc and receive from phone to pc just by using (send to..) or obex file transfer, so its still quite usable...
even though you cant send files bigger then available phone memory (read, no decent mp3s upload for example), so i wonder if using the nokia connetion thingie would allow to send them direct to the mmc..

actually i just been fooling around with it some more and managed to make it work. pc suite only. not nokia communication manager. so there is defnitly something wrong with your bluetooth 😃

btw, shouldnt it be possible for the phone to get internet access form the usb bluetooth if its sharing? i mean there is no place on my 6600 where i can select usb as point of access for the internet, would be sweet to be able to choose it, i only have 3 options, one says plainly internet (tested and its rel. expensive) second is isp's mms service point (untested), the third one is isp's internet service (also untested).

so does anyone know how to make the phone use the bluetooth connection on the paired pc for its internet access point?

Thanks for that, I can get it to connect to my W2k machine at work but not my xp pro at home!!

Does anyone know of any issues with XP Pro?

Thanks

If you want your files to be in the mmc automatically,go into message settings and set the memory in use to: MMC...
After this, all the files you send/sms and mms you receive will be stored in the MMC.. 😉 Later you can use a file manager to send the files to correct folder by going into e:\system\mail and use cut/paste for sorting the files out.. 😉

yes i just got my bluetooth today, and i am also having the same problem! I cannot connect to my 6600 PC suite.. hmm .. dang it.. any help pls?

Also have you enabeld the serial ports on the BT software. I have but still can not connect to my XP machine. I'm begining to think that there are compatibility issues with XP Pro.......

raygun: ugh, thx, hadnt realized i had settings for that.. 😊 been using the cut/paste out of mail from the phone memory so far 😃
but well, with pc suite now working its alot faster and easier to send/receive stuff 😊

6600_rich: i use xp pro and its been working.. had to configure a serial port connection on the bttaskmanager (or whatever its called) and select that port to be on listen on mrouter, then try to connect.. worked fine.. its weird that it works on 2k and not xppro..

I use XP Pro, and I've had no problems at all with Bluetooth with either my 7650 or my 6600.

Firstly, make sure you installed your BT software BEFORE PC Suite.

If not, uninstall both, then reinstall BT first. Check it works, then install the 6600 PC Suite. Now turn BT on on ur handset.

You should now have an icon in your system tray that looks like 2 grey triangles. When you hover the cursor over it it should say mRouter. Right click on this and a pop up menu will appear showing "Change Device" and "Properties". Click Properties and a window will appear marked Connection Properties. In this window are a series of check boxes, 2 of which should be your Bluetooth Serial Connections. These will be called "Bluetooth". Put a tick in both boxes. You may get an error message saying....

"Port Enable - It is not possible to enable that port, as it may be in use by another application"

Just click OK to get rid of this message. Depending on your BT software, you may get a request from it asking you to choose or connect your device. Follow the instructions as necessary.

You phone will also ask you if you wish to accept the connection request from your PC, so answer yes.

All being well, you should now see the 2 grey triangles change into a phone and pc icon that changes colour and then turns into 2 green triangles with yellow & blue lines between them.

If you see this, start up PC Suite, and you will be able to use all of it's features.

It is VITALLY important that you have installed your Bluetooth software BEFORE PC Suite.

There were issues some while back with the 7650 version of PC Suite because the mRouterserial.dll file was incorrect. This was sorted by copying over an older version of that file.
This IS NOT a problem with the 6600 version of PC Suite as mRouterserial.dll is no longer a component of PC Suite.

If you have tried all of this and still had no success, then I would suggest it is a setup issue with your bluetooth. Make sure you have the latest drivers for your bluetooth adapter. Your firewall is unlikely to be an issue.

As a last and final resort, speak to Club Nokia.

Hope you have better luck soon,

Rob 😃

Thanks for that, it must have taken an age to type!

But alas, it still does not work. I have set up this machine to mirror the one at work (which worked with no hassle) but nokia suite will not connect.

I can pair the phone with the PC so the BT is working fine, I can also send files to the phone so I know it is working.

I have removed everything and then re-installed everything (as described above) but it still will not work.

I can't be the only one with this problem!

The Pc automatically selects to use ports 6 and 7 for serial so I check these in M router but nothing happens. I have a choice of 16 BT checkboxes in mrouter and have checked all....

Am getting a bit annoyed now!

Oh yeah, am getting the error message the BT serial connection failed: The remote device closed the connection.

Oh dear,
Well, without seeing the machine in person, there's little else I can think of. Unless someone else in the forum has any suggestions, I'd try calling Club Nokia if I were you. I have had reason to call them a couple of times and found them to be pretty helpful.

Sorry I can't help any further 😞

Yes i am also using XP pro.. perhaps its an OS compatibility problem? Nokia Customer service here suck. They don't know anything. (SIngapore)

If anyone has XP pro, and made it work via bluetooth, let me know. pls! =)

Make sure only the com ports marked "Bluetooth" are enabled, (mines were 4, 5, and 6). Double click on the Belkin Bluetooth icon on your desktop, go to "view devices in range". There should be an icon for your phone with a red arrow (meaning paired) next to it, right click on the icon, pick "discover available services". An icon labelled "Bluetooth Serial Port on Nokia" should be present, right click and "connect to bluetooth serial port". You will get a message about "bluetooth configured for com port 0" and an "unsuccesful" message just OK them both. Hopefully you will be connected.

I too have the Belkin Bluetooth adaptor and had hours and hours of problems with it. I could not get connected until I turned off the firewall in Norton Internet Security. Sometimes if you've already tried to connect "automatic auto-block" comes into play preventing the same program from connecting for 30 mins even with the firewall disabled. After days of fiddling with the settings I discovered a Norton message about an "unauthorized attempt to connect to computer - the program will be blocked for 30 mins". When I clicked on more details it stated that the attempt was from a computer on my home network and probably low risk. It also gave me an ip address for the device which I then added to my firewall settings for home networking. Since then I'm connected in seconds.

Good Luck

I get this too and its bloody annoying! I have a CSR (Cambridge Silicon Radio / PenBlue) BT dongle. I borrowed a Belkin one some time ago and got it working eventually (at work - on 2000). Then I bought my own device, brought it in and it worked. Even using the already installed Belkin software. Since then I have uninstalled Belkin and installed my own drivers that came with the dongle and it stopped working completely. Even reinstalling Belkin doesnt work ("not compatible with your device..." etc etc) And I NEVER had it working at home on XP Pro!

Now when I try to use all the methods (and more) listed on the forums, I always get "Remove device closed connection", even though its paired fine, can send via regular bluetooth fine, and has all / the correct mrouter options selected. I even set it to auto accept connections but still "remote device closed connection".

This sucks! I backed up my phone last time it worked and since then I replaced the handset (dead pixels!) and now I wanna restore my data and I cant access it - all my contacts are gone!

Bloody Nokia. Surely it cant be this bleedin difficult... why the hell doesnt the phone support USB or something useable?

ARGH!!!

If I'm right, everyone who has the problem with XP has Service Pack 1 installed. You can check this by right-clicking on "My Computer" and selecting "Properties". If you have SP1 installed it will say so in the last line of the "System" section.

You have to do a registry hack to make this work ... you still get the message about not being able to connect to the serial port, or somesuch, but once you click past this it does work.

I'm using the MSI BToes dongle, and this worked for me.

Also, MSI now have a new updated driver from Widcomm for this device, which seems to have fixed even the error message I mentioned above. There may be a driver update from other vendors too ... check their support websites for details.

I have SP1 on my XP Pro & Home systems and bluetooth works fine 4 me. Before you go messing around with your registry, try getting the latest drivers 4 your BT unit.

Messing around with your registry is risky stuff.

Rob.

I bought a Hamlet USB dongle. Take a look at their download section even if your dongle is different. There is a Word document explaining the steps to configure the dongle with the 7650 . The 6600 is not much different.

The document does not contain solutions to everything, but it has been fundamental to me. Now I have both PC Suite and the modem drivers working correctly.

A few things that I have learned (but I do not know if they are universally true) are that:
- the dongle has to be connected to the pc before mRouter starts
- both the serial port service of the pc and the serial port service of the mobile must be active
- you should not trust the default modem drivers Windows XP installs for you, but explicitly install the Nokia ones, both for IR use than for BT

If I'm not mistaking,I think I heard of a prog called PCSuite Tweaker that can extract the previously stored backup of the phone.. Never tried it myself, but I heard it was working...

Dunno wether it's warez or not,cuz it sounds like it's tweaking Nokia's property(PCSuite) If any of you admins have info of it being a warez prog, plz delete this..

HI

I also have a Bluetooth dongle from Belkin, and have many problems with PcSuite.

I even got a manual from Belkin showing exactly how to connect with Nokia 3650 (which should be the same as for 6600), but it still doesnt work.

I think I will learn to live without it.

Good luck everybody

I have XP Pro, a Nokia 6600 (Orange) and a Belkin USB Bluetooth adapter.

All installed fine. Had about 5 mins messing about with the COM ports it selected. But then it worked fine and have no problems since.

Using the Nokia PC Suite with no problems either.

I don't run firewall software though. Have a hardware firewall built into my wireless hub.

Hello,

Some info on my current situation, which might shed some light on the subject for the rest of you:

I have a 6600 and the MSI Bluetooth USB dongle (not the BToes, the other one with a number as a name - can't think of the number off the top of my head).

The dongle came with the older 1.3.x Widcomm drivers. I installed everything as per instructions on Windows XP Home edition and had no luck what so ever. Somehow managed a connection ONCE, but never again. After a lot of research I found the new 1.4.2 Build 10 drivers on the MSI website. Installing these on both an WinXP Professional (SP1) machine and a Win2000 (SP04) machine was a snap. The software works, but it isn't pretty:

Basically what happens is you have to initiate a connection from your PC by selecting the Serial Port service of your phone (after discovery and pairing of course). The PC makes a request to the phone and is automatically denied. The annoying "Connection was closed by Remote Device" error message appears, but then a few seconds afterwards, the phone initiates a connection automatically (Think of it like a call-back number that some companies offer their employees for dialling in from home). This happens whether you've already clicked the OK button in the "Connection Closed" error message or not.

THE BIG PROBLEM I HAVE: Clicking that OK button resets Explorer! (ie, taskbar disappears and reappears, most tray icons are no longer visible, etc) This happens both on WinXP and Win2k. It doesn't hinder the connection, I can still use PC Suite just fine. It is just annoying that Explorer gets reset each time I want to make a connection.

So, for those of you who are getting the "connection closed" error message and who's phone's are not automatically making a connection back again, I suggest you try to get a hold of the 1.4.2 Widcomm drivers. You won't be able to use the ones on the MSI site unless you have an MSI dongle though.

If you have the 1.4.2 drivers and still can't get anything to work, I'm afraid I can't help.

Finally, if anyone else has experienced the reseting Explorer problem and has worked out how to get around it (or around the fact that the "connection closed" error message even appears, PLEASE let me know: [email protected]

Cheers,
Lars
P.S. Initiating a connection from the phone to the PC (instead of doing it the other way around and then having the PC make the auto-connection back again) doesn't seem to work either.

For those of you having problems in XP check that it is not a problem with permisions with the built in firewall. I use Zonealarm myself but in order to get the bluetooth connection going I had to give permission for about 6 different connections. I fi didn't give permission then no connection would be made. If the XP firewall works the saem way then this could be the problem

Having said that the connection is rarely made perfectly even now.

In order to connect I normally rightclick my bluetooth icon bottom left of the screen and select Quick Connect then Bluetooth Serial Port then select my Phone. 9 times out of ten this connects but sometimes I end up opening My Bluetooth places and clicking the Serial Connection Icon a few times before it finally fires into life.

This could be simple impatience on my part and if i waited a few moments it might fire into to life but it doesn't seem to connect at a consistant speed. Simply firing up the Nokia suite is not enough to enable a connection. I ahve to manually open the connection first using the method above. Once done it works very well though Bluetooth bandwidth is less than extraordinary.

I am using the TDK USB dongle for info.

I am new to these forums so please excuse me if I make a hash of this.
I too had problems with the bluetooth USB adapter but I am now up and running thanks to a small phone call to Belkin
They sent me a word document which explains the setup which is slightly different than in the manual.
Firewall is not the problem.

I have attached the word document.

Haysi
