What do u think of it?
It's only for American Market right now but i think they will release one for the european market too.Maybe the mysterious 6600i 😃.
My oppinion is it looks UGLY.Hope 6600i will be exactly like 6600.
Nice add-ons(feauters) of 6620 esspacialy the mp3 player 😃.I think it's STEREO.
Bye
Nokia 6620! First mobile phone with EDGE
OOOPPPSSS forgot to post the link for the preview:
http://www.mobileburn.com/review.jsp?Id=589
Here it is.K
faster processor than the 6600? wish I could get my hands on that phone! I have the 6600 and it's soooo slow.
I read that it plays mp3... but are you sure that the output is STEREO? coz all other series 60 phones can play mp3's also... but in mono output only.
If all answers are yes, then I totally will love this phone. 6600 might have a better look but there's only a small difference (for me ) 😊

If you look MobileBurn's pictures, you see it uses PopPort connector. And therefor it is stereo. BTW it is first S60 phone to use PopPort
Hey,
It looks really good, some good ideas in there I feel.
The camera and video feature being integrated is a good idea so you don't have to swap between icons to select either app.
As has been said it must be the inclusion of the pop-port that makes it stereo through head phones. Plus there is that speaker docking station available for the 7250's, I wonder if one will be made for this fone maybe.
Another idea, the firmware. Wonder if this could be written to the 6600's we have?
Ian
now frankly i dont care. i dont use mp3s much and no wap as well. so FUCK NOKIA THIS TIME ROUND. im sick now. 6600 is the best for me
Not all other Series 60 phones are mono: N-Gage,Siemens SX1,Sendo X.
Jesal,in the future, please use a more appropriate language.
... the phone is a US release. I don't think it will be made available in Europe. Almost all European phones have a "brother" in the US. It's no big deal. Only that this time everybody seems to gone crazy. And it's not the first smartphone launched in the US as I saw in some sites. Nokia launched 3600 (similar to 3650) a few months ago.
... this is NOT the first mobile phone with EDGE. Nokia 6220 is.
but it IS the first Series 60 with it.

6220 is not the first mobile with EDGE, but 6200 is...
Hello ppl,
Any idea when the 6620/6600i will be released in the Europe/ Asia-pacific market?
According to Nokia press release it's 2nd quarter 2004 for the American market, so I think the same time for European market as well.😊
Also does the 6620 have Stereo FM?
thanks traktori... coz I have no idea how a PopPort connector looks like.

I meant Nokia series 60... sorry for not making it that clear 😊 Also forgot about N-gage... thanks for clearing that one up Ghostdog.
The Port-Pop Connector is used on most Nokia series 40 Phones.
Crack up!
Faster processor
More onboard memory (12mb)
Stereo output
EDGE technology
Better colour scheme
....
Sooo glad I didn't purchase a 6600! 6620 here I come!
Faster CPU is only rumour right now... there has been no offical release from Nokia.
Yes, there is more memory, but it is ROM not RAM. So it makes no difference to performance at all.
Also, if you dont live in the Americas, it would be silly to get the 6620, it uses GSM850/1800/1900.
According to Nokia's UK site the 7700, 6810 and 6820 all will have edge technology and are slated for a 2nd quarter release....
semi related, but is there even EDGE support in the UK yet?
i know the phone is for the Americas where one of the providers have set it up, but i figure that a EU release will occur, which is a pain cos i just got a 6600 😞
I wouldnt worry too much about Edge being in full use in UK for a while at least not until after 3G has taken off - I heard that the operators wont touch EDGE upgrades to their networks(even though it is very simple process of upgrading the software at the exchange) becuase quite rightly they have spent x billions on 3G license's and want to make the most of it....it makes me wonder if 3G will take longer than expected to roll out and whether we as users could be paying for it for the rest of our mobile lives!
Orange in the UK have some EDGE trial sites, but I wouldn't expect any expansion on it this year, as the main focus is to roll out the 3G network for launch in July/August 2004.
played on the 6820, cute thing for sure. dint get the part bout EDGE thing ppl are going on about. frankly i cant b bothered.
EDGE is a lot faster then standard GSM/GPRS - 2.5G networks thus the posibility of live video streaming which is not really possible on 2.5G networks. Some even call it 2.75G
Edge is very close to 3G speeds and its upgradable like broadband... I think some would dissagree though that live video streaming is not really possible on 2.5g seeing as there are alot of companies doing it...
pasa, true, you can do live video streaming on 2.5G networks but it would take a fairly long time to download a decent quality video clip and i don't even want to start about GPRS prices today 😉
Originally posted by pasaEDGE (EGPRS) is approximately 3 times the speed of "regular" GPRS, or in other words it means about 120Kbps download speeds, whereas 3G (meaning UMTS/WCDMA/IMT-2000, or CDMA2000 networks), more or less, starts at about 380Kbps (which is about 3 times EDGE) and can reach (at least) 1-2Mbps eventually.

EDGE is generally only a software upgrade for a modern GSM/GPRS network.
I don't know what you mean by "upgradable like broadband".

considering the device being a mobile phone the quality of 2.5g streaming is a much better "overall" than most narrowband streams served by real and others in my opinion, and they serve a far more useful purpose on a phone rather than a fixed position PC - I personally wouldnt put a lot of money into streaming video to phones but by offering offline content which a user can download to their phone through a computer - removing costs of (I agree) GPRS, the fact that you can only watch it once (unless you pay to stream again) and the quality.
I do however agree that the quality of content available to 2.5g phones is limited to say the least. The other fact is that content creators do not seem to consider the device they will be watched on and try to work to these specs when picking or creating content.

I am not sure about the figures that you are quoting as I have been told different but if Edge is three times the speed of GPRS then I will be looking forward to the kind of quality it will bring as I am most impressed with the GPRS service as it stands. You also have to remember that 3G is available to very many people in the country its also currently only available to around 150,000 with the handsets and to be honest the quality of the video calls is something to discussed if it is currently running at 6 times the speed of GPRS I think someone is being cut short somewhere.
Apart from this - the fact that top speeds of networks, Infrared, Bluetooth, Hispeed data, GPRS are always given under the best conditions and very rarely reach these limits and phones find this even harder with having to constantly re-establish connection to the network...
EDGE is generally only a software upgrade for a modern GSM/GPRS network.I don't know what you mean by "upgradable like broadband".
EDGE like ADSL only requires a software upgrade at the exchange making our existing network/phone cables send data differently. and Like ADSL it is upgradable further as you can probably see with the current ADSL market.
I would liken 3G to the cable modem market which they have had to lay new lines for and does offer a better service and is upgradable easier and faster albeit again to a smaller audience...
