Install FExplorer (in Options -> Tools you can turn on the backlight and it is kept on until you exit FExplorer or turn it off again) or Torch (which does the same thing; keeps the backlight on).

Leave either of these running, and switch to your ebook reader.

Most of my Palm ebooks are in secure palm reader format (commercial books) - will epocware handy Book let me read these?

The other format I have books in is Mobipocket ebook format, but I can re-download those books from www.fictionwise.com in another format for handy Book.

Yeh it reads the commercial books format, .pdb
and also the .txt format.
I read somewhere it can read .doc format as well.
But I dont know about Mobipocket ebook format, you have to for yourself.
