Delete dictionary entry?

17 replies · 23,558 views · Started 18 January 2004

My Nokia 6600 has been too smart and has added a word to its dictionary that is annoying the &@%^ out of me.

The word is "yot", and now it comes up on my phone every time I try to type the word "you". It is irritating and means I need to concentrate when typing a message as I am used to the phone having "you" as the default.

Does anyone know how I can either remove this word from my dictionary or, failing that, delete the dictionary entirely and start again (I've only had the phone 2 weeks, so it wouldn't be a massive annoyance)??

I have tried using FExplorer to locate and edit/replace the dictionary but have no idea where to look.

Any help appreciated!

HI!...

With FExplorer go to...

C:/system/data/ ...

Down there you will find a file called: T9UDB0f.DAT

Delete that file and you will get a clean Dictionary again 😃

That file will be created again when you add a new word...

And you may be can backup that file to the PC sending by BT with the FExplorer.. then if you add a bad word you can get it back the backup of that file...

try this little trick as well: press 968 as you would for typing "you",but keep pressing the * until it asks you to spell the word for it.. Now add "you" in your dictionary, even though it's allready there.. Cuz,I've,at least, noticed that the last word added to the dictionary is the first word it will guess next time you try to use the same key combination... Yot will not be deleted, but it will be moved down to second guess,at least..

this works for me in norwegian T9.. should be the same for any language,I guess.. 😊

That previous reply was absolutely right. Nice 1 m8. I had a word in there i needed to erase but didnt want to erase all the words i added. Does any1 know what the maximum amount of words you can add is?

HI!..

to me look absurd trying to delete a bad word adding the right one again...

Because the right one it's allready on the main Dictionary (in ROM mem) ... so when you add the right word will be holded on the T9UDB0f.DAT (RAM) and the bad word stay there too... so you get 2 words that you don't need on the new words file (.dat)

That file (.DAT) can be only 4kb. long.. after a 4kb of new words will begin to delete the first word you add and put the newer one...

So to me is better to make backup of that .DAT file when you think that you added a lot of words (right ones), then if you add by mistake a bad word.. you can replace the .dat with your backup...

Well, that is one way of doing it... But the only reason for adding an allready existing word is to make it appear as the first choice when typing...
and 4KB doesn't sound like a lot, but if it's all 4KB for new words, then it's still 4000 letters...it's a question of choosing whats better for yourself: adding a new word while typing or going into file manager and replacing files for 5min just to have that list 100% perfect.. u c? 😊
BTW,one other thing I use to save free space ofr new words: if I'm gonna type in a word that I don't usually use nor have expectation of using later,I just switch to manual typing insteadof adding to the list...

i told you about the 4kb.. actually because to me the .dat is full right now... so.. the 4kb is not a letters of the new words only.. are code there for the T9 system too...

Guys, I believe both options make sense 😊 depending on your needs...but there is another point: wouldn't it be possible to extend the size of that T9UDB0f.DAT file as it's in the RAM.

I found it quite frustrating to have to add words again and again as they keep on disappearing from the list. This dictionary should work for us, not against us!

Any developer with a brilliant idea there??

Type the word so it comes up with "yot" then press the pencil button, select Dictionary then Edit word.

Retype "You" and then it will come up with "you" first instead of "yot". Hope you understand this, its a bit confusing...

Mike.

Here we go again...

i think this is a cycle topic...

Never ends...

Same suggestions again?.. lol!

Have you read this post from the beginning?????????????????

Ghostdog, U cant even put search the forum on this one lol.

!!!!!!!!!!!! 😊

I am unable to locate the t9.dat file as specified at the beginning of the thread. I've searched using fexplorer but the search comes up empty. I'm using a N7610 and figure the data would be in the same place. Anyone have any suggestions?

Hello ,

here some suggestion that can help.

1. copy the DAT file to the pc by Irda or bluetooth.
2. open it using the notepad or word ( choose unicode) ** prefer to use notepad
3. After edit, example:- change the word yot to you and then save it
4. copy it back to your phone. example:- copy the file to the "Other Folder"
5. use FExplorer cut the DAT file from Other Folder back to c:/system/data ....
6. overwrite the T9 file.

There you go, u have your own words edited.

enjoy

😊

This used to work on the last Symbian phone I had (Nokia 6600), but it's not working with the E70.

Looks like a DAT file delete or edit for me.......

Just to share my recent experience with this
I too had the Yot / You confusion going on in my phone.
The T9 Dictionary had learnt an incorrect work and i could not seem to make it forget.... so my last resort was to delete the data file containing all the words my phone had learnt.

Nokia E51
Symbian Series 60 3rd edition

I downloaded FExplorer and got it signed, otherwise it will not install

follow this link to get FExplorer http://www.gosymbian.com/FE_beta_download_3ed.html

Follow this link on how to get this signed http://www.gosymbian.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1164
(just note that i have tried to get this signed for about two weeks because the site was having problems)

Once installed in my phone

I found my target file at

C:\Predic\101F8615_F.dat

I deleted the file and restarted the phone... and all my problems went away

k i have a nokia 5230 and i cant find the folder!!! dang please help me i cant find "C:/system/data/" ugh!!!
