I've just ordered a 6600 but if its not going to work with the built in Bluetooth kit in my BMW I must cancel it immediately!
Can somebody please help and advise me if this is a problem?
Somebody mentioned the operating system of 6600 is not compatible with BT car kits.
Thanks very much.

6600 and BMW Bluetooth car kit
last i heard was that the 6600 was fully audio over BT compatible so unless BMW have done something weird i guess it should work.
im sure someomne will put me right if im wrong about the 6600 and BT
Yes but can you answer and does the phonebook download into the BMW?
I've heard not!
Darryl
That will only work if the BMW had a built-in phone with SIM ACCESS PROFILE capabilities like the NOKIA 810
Other wise, if the kit is just a AudioGateway I can asure you it will work!.
Youve lost me with your reply Deathmonger.
BMW fits a Bluetooth kit without a phone (an optional extra and usually a Sony Ericcson) as standard to all new BMWs in Australia.
I've a Sony Ericsson and it provides full functionality through the BMW kit i.e. phonebook, dialling on the screen and steering wheel etc.
As I'd like to upgrade to the 6600 I want to know is will I have full functionality with the 6600 too.
I understand earlier Nokia phones using the Symbian platform don't have full functionality with various Bluetooth car kits.
Darryl
Ok, let's try again.
The BMW bluetooth is just an Audio Gateway via bluetooth. When you recieve a call IN YOUR PHONE you can hang up the phone and talk using the car's kit. ANY PHONE featuring that service will work fine, T68i,P800,P900, 6310i, 3660, 3650, 6600 etc...
Am I clear now?
I received this URL from the BMW forum and unfortunately it doesn't look good at all!

Hi deathmonger
With the 6600 you can't get anything either in or out through the BMW Bluetooth kit.

I've just read the thread and as you say the 6600 is listet as NON COMPATIBLE but as you can see it says ("handsfree only"😉 and we are talking about a Bluetooth handsfree kit quoting the FAQ. Anyway. The BMW is just supposed to let you speak and listen to calls via the car's micro and speakers no all together with the attend/hang call button, no? Isn't that a handsfree.
😞
If the FAQ says so and he says it's been tested, nothing more I have to say.
I just had my Nokia 6600 upgraded to the latest firmware v5.x. Now i am able to use the mobile handsfree in my new BMW 525. However, it is still not possible to view the phonebook entries.

At least you have a Beamer to console you, poor thing!
according to nokia's site somewhere 6600/6620 phone does not come with the API for accessing an audio gateway service. doesn't matter if it's your pc, laptop or in your car.
the headset profile is the only way to connect out from the phone to an audio service. even if we can get the headset profile to connect, you won't be able to play mp3s on through it for example...

I have a BMW Bluetooth car kit and I can get the 6600 to pair with the car but when the phone rings and I answer from the car the sopund will only come out the phone and not the car speakers at all. Is there any upgrade I can do to my phone to get it to work correctly with the BMW Bluetooth car kit?

I have just brought a 6600 and can pair with my BMW Bluetooth car and send phone numbers infdividually down to the car to view on the radio display but if I make or receive a call in the car the phone will ring on the car spekers but when I answer the call the audio only comes out the phone and not out the car. Is there any patch that you know of available for the phone to download to fix this problem?

I just wanted to chime in on this topic since I also have bluetooth in my Acura. Nokia's implemention of bluetooth is horribe as signal strength, battery life, caller ID information (correlated w/ my phone book) does not show up. My Sony Ericsson phone shows everything and works great. I know its because Nokia's bluetooth profiles are either not present or not complete.
I agree. it is not BMW's fault that Nokia do not implement standards correctly.

That is exactly the problem i was faced with before the firmware upgrade. Just go to a Nokia service center and get your firmware upgraded, it will work then.

I have the 6600 that I bought about a month ago and just bought a new bmw 330 (I really am posting to ask a question and not to gloat!).
Will I be able to:
use the steering wheel controls
have audio in/out through the car's microphone and speakers
be able to see the caller id on my radio display
set up a bmw voice activated phone book to dial out with?
I don't want to switch phones because the 6600 rocks and totally syncs my contacts and calendar with my mac.
Thanks for any information you can provide.
I've had a 6600 since the begining of the year (with firmware 3.42) and was quite annoyed that it wasn't compatible with my 3 series, especially since my 6310 worked perfectly.
Ever since then I have been trying to find Series 60 phone that would be compatible but have had no luck. From what I understand the problem is with the Symbian OS which only supports the Handsfree profile and NOT the Headset profile that BMW supports so the problem is not just with Nokia phones it is with any Series 60 device.
However, I have heard recently from a friend in Symbian that this has been or will be patched. It sounds as if it has been fixed in firmware 5.x seeing as Glman appears to now have his car and phone working together.
I'm now going to try and get my phone upgraded to the latest firmware and I'll let you know what happens.

Thanks. I will also check out my firmware version.

Well, I have been more successful than I thought but there are still some major problems. I got the phone and car to pair very easily and when I turn on the car they automatically pair up and when I pull the key out, they disengage. I also was able to make calls with excellent quality by dialing out on my handset and all sound flows through bmw. But I have not been able to receive a call. This is, I believe, tied in to a larger problem that I can't seem to get the car to switch between radio and phone with just the r/t button. I don't quite understand what the head with radio waves diagram next to the r/t button on steering wheel is but I have yet to get it to have any effect. I seem to have to unpair the devices to get my radio back and then pair again to use phone.
I will try some more tomorrow. So close!
