Third party applications?

According to http://www.mbrainsoftware.com/UIQ/Pdf/Pdf.htm:

"Customers of Three UK and Three Australia can now upgrade their Motorola A920, enabling it to install third-party applications such as Pdf+ (for UIQ Smartphones). Three branches in other countries are expected to introduce this firmware upgrade shortly. Please check the Three website in your country for more details."

Does anyone know if this is correct?

Cheers

OK, bit of confusion there.
I have not had my phone upgraded and at the moment there is a block put on the phone by three that restricts any third party applications being installed.
It does, however, appear, that if i was to get my phone flashed this would allow the use of bluetooth, create a faster handset and also allow the installation of third party software - however it would help the battery life!

Cheers for you help anyways,

Olly

No problem.

Even with your current firmware, you can run third party applications but i think it envolves a complicated procedure of signing apps on PC and its probably illegal. Why don't you just upgrade your firmware, its free right?

hi
i have had my a920 upgraded for bluetooth etc. but i can only run certain p800 apps and games the handset keeps asking for the
SONY ERICSSON P80X PLATFORM PRODUCT I.D. but i dont know where i can get this if you know where i can get this that would be great ta

I may be wrong, but I believe this is down to the software itself. As the SE Px00's were the only IUQ devices around, developers were including a device specific "switch" within the code when compiling it. This makes the software look for a particular device when it is being installed. However, it's not really necessary. Any decent developers wanting to expand the potential user-base for their products should be looking to recompile their code without this switch, or to produce an A920 specific version.

But I don't think you can just enter a code. If their is a piece of software in particular, write to the developers and ask them if they have plans to update it for the A920. The more who ask, the more chance of it happening. From what I understand, it's a few minutes work anyway.
