Can somebody reffer me to a site (from this forum) or somewhere else where i can find a complete guide how to transferr my DivX movies and DVDs to my phone.

thanks in advance

To get good quality movies on my phone, I use Mobiclip. Go HERE to download the viewer for your phone and the software for your PC.

This will allow you to convert your DivX files straight away. To do DVD's you will need a DVD Decrypter to rip the video files on to your hard drive and then a program like AutoGordianKnot to convert them into .avi format so Mobiclip can handle them.

When running the Mobiclip software on your PC, you will also need to download VirtualDub software. The Mobiclip tutorial will give you the link for this.

Two words of warning....

1. Mobiclip files take up a lot of space i.e a 110 minute movie takes up approximately 85-90 MB, so make sure u have a large MMC.

2. Beware the legal aspect of copying movies.

I've successfully converted movies etc and it's a great way to use and show off your phone. The conversion process isn't quick, but it is worth it.

There are other ways of getting movies on ur phone, but this is a very high quality method and best of all, it's FREE ! 😃

Good luck,

Rob.

Hi,

There are 2 ways:

Way 1:
1) Goto Nokia Forums, Register there (If you are not a member)
2) Download the Nokia Multimedia Convertor Program
3) Use it to convert your DivX Movies to a .3GP file;
which you can play using the Real Player in your Phone

Way 2:
1) Get PVAuthor software
2) Convert your movies to a .mp4 file
3) Use PVPlayer on your phone to watch them

Way 2, the PVPlayer method, compress your file to much less than .3GP files.

any chance i can get smaller movies than those of 90mbs.
mariris how big are the clip i can produce using your method?

.3gp and .mp4 files are considerably smaller than Mobiclip files, but the quality of Mobiclip is far superior. It's up to you, do you want quality or quantity 😉 Also, PV Player, I believe, is not free, whereas Mobiclip is.

I suggest u give 'em all a go.

Rob.

Hi,

The .3gp will also roughly be about 80 MB for a whole 700 MB movie of DivX.

PVPlayer will abt about 40 to 60 MB.

Marirs

BTW,

You could also check a few in the videos section
on url removed 😉

Marirs, the website you posted has illegal content, consider this a warning.

Hi that PVPlayer, is a .sis installation file for your 6600.
Install the PVPlayer into your mobile (MMC/Phone memory)

then play the videos.

Marirs 😊

Not very PRIVATE then 😃

lol!...

I want to see this people seen this 40 to 80 meg movies, unpluged ... the battery will die before you see the end of the movie or if somebody call and you talk for a while, then you continue seening the movie and... battery! oh it's dead 😞 ... 😃

And if you are pluged to charger... i think it's better to see the movie on the PC don't you think? 😉

who really will see a 2 hours film on a phone?... what for?...
only to say to your friend "hey look i have a complete movie here!" ... it's that really amazing?... you really enjoy a movie playing on a couple of inches screen?, with very bad sound, and more pixelated while more action is happening?... even if you are a damn fan of that movie, come on! lol! this doesn't make any sense to me...

May be a trailer, or a music video clip, short things, only to see a couple of minutes to distract for a while, but come on!, 2 hours?, i think is not really healthy for your eyes 🙄

just my opinion anyway!...

cya!

😎

Actually, I watched a whole movie on the train the other night on my way home from work. I used to use my laptop, but it's too clumsy on the train. My 6600 performed superbly and the battery didn't even drop by half !

So I LOVE movies on my phone 😃

Rob.

yup,

I do that while I wait for the plane. And ofcourse, if you are a serious movie watcher on the phone, you could might as well get your self, equipped with a back up battery charged. It dosent cost much too. 😉

BTW the full movies on the PVPlayer comes to only 16 to 20 MB.

Marirs

Besides movies, you could watch your fav. serials, or anything for that matter, not just focussing on movies 😊

There is variety you could do on the n6600 😃

how do i get better quality:
1)mobiclip converter and player
2)nokia converter and 3gp files
???

Quality wise, MobiClip is better.

Optinally, another solution is to have Helix Producer by RealNetworks & encode your movies to .rm

But it costs, Quality is as good as Mobiclip, about 10~15 MB less than MobiClip.

Marirs

Same here,I watch a movie now and then,on my brothers N-Gage,when I can steal it from him and no battery problems.

I too prefer Mobiclip,it has awesome quality and you should see how great it looks on a p900.

20 MB full movie with PvPlayer?!? That will look horrible 😉

The quality for the PVPlayer stuff..is not too bad though..
but yea.. Mobi Clip is the best..

For those with less MMC space..PVPlayer stuff is the best...

When I installed the mobi clip converter all it did was install a bunch of demo files on my computer and no converter? Am I missing somethng to enable the full install?

Read your other post.... 😃 This one

OK Ive been playign around with Mobiclip a little and am beginning to appreciate it properly though most of the hard work is done by virtual dub.

I recomend that you have a go at creating wide screen format movies which mean that you have to run the phone on its side. The increase in picture size does make a huge difference though and is well worth it. I have only done a few clips to test because the original rip in virtua dub is basically done in real time and the first couple I did using the mobiclip settings file which is actually configureed wrong and will give you an error when you come to the last compression stage. If you do try the widescreen settings make sure that you change the Audio compression to 16bit! It will save you considerable frustration.

I'll try a full movie tonight and see hwo big the file is. A little more tweaking is required to optimise the picture shape and perhpas I need to drop a few more frames to keep amovie down to a reasonable size.

So far so good though. When I think I have reached close to optimum settings I'll post them up here.

That would be very nice of you loGan.I downloaded mobliclip ages ago but i still haven't player with it much.I'll do may fair share of encoding videos one of these days so we can compare results.

The only problem is,you are not alowed to distribute .mo clips.

You can't distribute any .mo clips? That is a bit short sited on their front though I guess with technology like this you are always going to fall foul of copyright.

My first effort at a full movie came in at a rather podgy 150Mb last night. That is for a "wideish screen" sideways movie which uses the whole screen area of the phone. The source image was proper widescreen and the final cut in mini mode looked rather squidged up so next time I need to figure out how to use the whole screen and yet not lose the aspect ratio. Basically I need to crop off the sides of the widescreen image. I also need to bring the size of the file down by about half which may be harder.

Utilising the whole screen is an enormous improvement over the real player screen area but it may well make full movies impossible for anyone with less than 256MB of memory. Anyone with ambitions of bringing Lord of the Rings to their small screen better get saving for that 1Gig card!

Well, they've done it,a full widescreen movie on a 128 MB MS DUO in the UIQ forums.Read this thread: http://my-symbian.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12356&highlight=mobiclip I know its a long 9 page thread but i'm sure it would be very helpful.

Well thats easy
Lets take f.e. a video with 352x288 (VCD PAL)
If you shrink width to 320, the height wouldnt fit on 208 Pixels.
So shrink height to the P800 208 Pixels.
288/208 = 1,385 Now the relation of those has to be same in width to keep aspect ratio:
352/x = 1,385
x = 352/1,385 = 254

Then 352/288 is the same as 254/208, thats 1,22, so aspect ratio is ok.
Thats easy, isnt it ?

To use that, get the Dub-Filter Resize and type in 254x208.
To fit that in the P800 Screen, klick on "Expand frame and letterbox image" and type in 320x208.
That means, you say the Surrounding ist 320x208 and the video fits in there as 254x208.
Last you have to select the rotate filter in any direction 90 degrees.

Thats it. Now you can encode and enjoy. I will try out myself now, its encoding with 2-4 FPS on a 1,6P4......very slow

Just change the setings/resolution to fit the 6600 screen and not px00

I converted a 110 minute widescreen (2.35:1) movie to a 88MB .mo file. Picture size i used was 208 x 96, which is pretty faithful to the 2.35:1 ratio.
I used the Mobiclip recommended conversion settings in VirtualDub. I think the trick is the conversion from .vob files using AutoGordianKnot. I selected the smallest size of 1/4 CD - 175MB. This will allow you to get it as small but as clear as possible.

As has already been said, it's a case of experimentation and of course, the more free space you have on your MMC, the better 😃

Anyway, I watched my movie on the phone all the way thru and it was fine. Certainly made my train ride whizz by 😃

Rob.

In my experiments so far I have been using the settings provided in the tutorial for turning the image on its side to watch widescreen but with a few tweaks.

Firstly you ahve to select 16 bit in the audio compression settings otherwise you wont be able to compress the intermediate avi with MO. Secondly I found that simply turning a good widescreen image on its side and then scaling down to the Phone screen size would cause a very squished up image. In order to improve this I didn't use any exact science because pretty much all my files are in slightly different format but I found a happy compromise was to simply crop about 16(pixels?) off the left and right of the screen using virtua dub at the same time as it reduces the screen size.

By doing this you can keep the approximate aspect ratio and avoid any black lines top and bottom of the screen without losing too much of the action.

Having said this size still seems to be a problem as I completely a movie last night and it came in at 125mb or thereabouts. This was with the frames decimated by 2 and a quality of about 60%. I guess I need to look at reducing quality to shrink the files some more.

Having said that an episode of the Office came in at about 50MB so this method works great for TV series.
