Converting Divx to .3gp or RM?

Any tips in how best to convert a 700meg Div x into a watchable 75Meg .3gp file?

The Nokia Suite converter doesn't spit out very watchable quality, can anyone recomend any better software?

Hmm mobiclip either doesn't work as a converter or is simply an elaborate marketing exercse. The player seems fine but the converter install just install demo files and no converter as far as I can see.

Packetvideo doesn't seem to offer a demo so no joy there either. I managed to find the Nokia Multimedia encoder seperate from the PC Suite which at least allows some manipulation. Some files convert better than others but at least you can do it seperately to the copying process.

IoGan....

When you installed the 25.4MB Mobiclip converter...do you think it just installed fresh air ?? 😃

All you need to do is read the instructions.

Go to the Mobiclip folder on your start menu and read the instructions, called Mobiclip Manual. There it will tell you how to convert files into the Mobiclip format. It will also tell you to download a piece of free software called VirtualDub, which makes things even easier. But just to prove my point, right click on an .avi file and you will see the option to "Convert to Mobiclip".

Trust me, it's not a marketing exercise. Mobiclip is a full, top quality video codec and playback system which gives you top drawer results. AND IT'S FREE !! 😃

Rob.

Tahnsk Rob I just asked the same question on the other thread on this subject which I hadn't noticed.

Thanks for the pointers, I'm not a big manual reader. As a product developer who kicks software developers I alway live by the rule "if you need a manual something aint right!".

I had virtua dub but hadn't noticed the right click option. Thanks again. I'll see how the quality of this compares to Nokia Media converter.

I've got PVAUTHOR, cost me, but the program is the dogs bolax, really quick and totally customizable.
You can crop movies to fit the screen, and record at any bitrate you like, mp4 and h263 (3gp).

Encoded a Simpsons episode at 128kbs 18MB and very good quality, using 14fps and 12kb sound

Well you certainly need patience with MobiClip but combined with VirtuaDub I can see that the results if small enough in MB terms should be very good quality.

I haven't had the time to really play yet because having made an intermediate avi before compressing to .mo I must have made a mistake with the settings because on right click "Compress to mo" I received an error message telling me that my intermediate file had not been ripped correctly. As I used the demo settings that came with Mobiclip Im not sure what was wrong. Perhaps it was because I had turned the image on its side for maximum wide screen on my phone. For whatever reason it didn't work but I will try again tonight until I find the sweet spot.

On the plus side for Nokia Media encoder I have ripped a couple of great quality movies with that. A lot of it seems to depend on the source material as to how well NME spits it out. The difference between 64kbs and 128kbs is not immediately obvious.

Can I adjust the volume during the mobiclip playing?

and why no time line during the play back?

I am using 6600

thanks

The volume can be adjusted by hitting the top left shortcut button, selecting volume and then adjusting accordingly. As for a time line I can only say the ability to FF or FR is a severe shortcoming of all mobile players at the moment. I don't knwo whether the MMC format makes it difficult or whether all the player makers assume that people will only ever be playing very short clips. Maybe they realise that the best possible use of their technology is to rip down Divx movies or programs to be watched on the train etc but because of copyright issues they don't want to encourage it by including funcitonality which would make the process a whole lot easier.

Thanks for your reply...

One more question, I cannot transfer the MO file via the PC Suit..

pls advise... but I can transfer other files...now I using teh USB card reader to tarnsfer the MO file to the MMC card... but it is quite troublesome...

Thanks

Does PCSuite not recognise the file? You may be able to do it if you turn off the file conversion attributes though I am just guessing because I haven't experienced this problem.

It is a pain in the butt to have to take the MMC out of the phone all the time to do transfers but to be honest it is a lot less hassle than trying to transfer 100MB via Bluetooth which can take forever.

When transfering movies and large files I always use my USB card reader and drag and drop the movies into the Mobiclip folder. Smaller stuff I do via bluetooth.

Is there any software which will allow you to view a movie in full screen widescreen format?

knh4,sometimes it helps if you actually read the thread you post in.Personally,i don't think you deserve an answer you were to lazy to read this thread and i don't even want to consider searching the fourm, that would've been a real drag, right?Anyway, you can play fullscreen+widescreen with PvPlayer,Mobilclip and the built in player from the 3GPP Philips Camcorder - IMO best playback performance so far.
